I’ve been paving in Massachusetts for 41 years of my life I am 68 years old and just about to retire and leave it to my sons. He is correct wetting up the driveway will definitely complete the curing process. And never never turn your wheels in one spot only when the vehicle is in motion especially when the driveway is new or only a couple seasons old!

Just had my driveway done and the contractor left without aftercare instructions. When searching, this video was the first video that came up. While watching, your driveway and surroundings looked oddly familiar 🤔 then I realized that I bought an AC off you years ago that you'd posted on FB marketplace. Either way, sorry for the weird comment, and thanks for the video, very helpful👍

There are lots of articles online saying water or rain actually causes issues??!?

Love when people try telling others the way to do things, when they themselves have no idea..only thing this guys said that I fully agree with is the no turning when the vehicle is not moving, and that's only for the first week or so depending on location and temp conditions...but the rest is bull...do not hose down your driveway...excessive water can break down fresh asphalt just like oil can(which is why after initial compaction with rollersor tamps, the water is shut of...its on initially to keep asphalt from sticking to drums) ....you may think you're cooling it down but your not...all that water does is bring the heat and oils to the surface and make the surface easier to scuff or damage...asphalt can take up to a year to cure(fully harden), so if all you're trying to do is cool it down so you can park on it sooner, dont, just be patient and wait the recommend 24hrs of no traffic and then open to light traffic (car in and out of garage and 3-5 days before you park on it...I live in s.c. and we pave almost all year round D.O.T is constantly checking that our mix, depths, and compaction rates are correct to a national standard for roadways and when we do commercial parking lots and driveways we arent being held to those same standards by law but we hold ourselves to the same standards, and the only thing the heat does is slow the cooling process down by a day or two depending on the job...just like any form of roadwork/construction, there are ideal conditions, workable conditions, and non suitable conditions, i.e., rain or temps too cold for the PLANTS to run...in the end, myself and the company I work for, strive for the best possible end result/product for our clients, so we make sure all of our employees are knowledgeable in the trade I/we/they have chosen to be in...knowledge is power...not hear say

1: Wetting your asphalt down won’t make it cure out faster.
2: Asphalt is a heated material. The hotter the weather is the better the job will turn out because you don’t have to hurry up and roll it.

Thanks for this informative video.

Any way to remove tire marks?

Didn’t park on it but drove into the garage in straight lines. Still, when I wet up the driveway as you said, in the morning and evening, the tire marks become visible.

When this is done does it crate a major heat effect even above all around? Does this create major heat?

My driveway was paved 16 days ago and is still soft. The summer has been very hot here in NH the passed couple weeks, during the job and since…. They never mentioned watering the driveway morning and evening.🤦🏻‍♂️

How long does it take to cure in North Ohio? Should you avoid snowplowing 4 months after?

i just had my driveway top coated with 2 inches of asphalt, , contractor told me not to park on it for 5 days, , , if i had to use the garage he said just drive straight in or out, , no parking what so ever on it for 5 days, , , it looks so amazing that i wont even be walking on it for 10 days for added assurance, , we live in mass and temps are 70-75 during the day and 40-50 at night, , , i will seal it in 2 years..Contractor never said anything about watering it but we might get some rain in the next 10 days so i will leave it..In 2 years i will have it completely sealed.

I was told by my paving company 2 to 3 days and I still do not dare drive on at a week later we have hot temperatures he told me this was the best time of year to do it we are in July right now and he told me to buy place and to put down on the driveway so that the tires will scrub out on that rather than the fresh pavement

If you've been around blacktop you would know that paving in colder weather you will get rough spots when it cools to fast, nobody said anything about proper compaction. Your blacktop needs roughly 30 days ( none consecutive) days for the asphalt to cure but can still leave tire turn marks on hot days, and never use bucket sealers from department stores hot asphalt sealers only.

In defense of this video. I just got my blacktop driveway today 5/7/2020 2:29 pm the contractor just left and before he did he told me to do exactly what this guy is telling me in this video water included.
