How many cars kill people everyday but no one ever bans that. It's not fair that we all have to pay for someone else's accident.

I hadn't planned to buy an e-bike but if they are getting banned I guess I will now.

On a side note. As a kid on a bike in Chicago growing up, I had a car blow through a red light, hit me on my bike and sent me flying through the air into the middle of the intersection. I landed on my forehead and still have a dent in my skull to this day. There was no emergency meeting held by the mayor of the city. The mayor never even heard about it. I think this small town is *way* over-reacting. That could have happened to anyone on any bike. Maybe the driver wasn't paying attention and was startled at the last second.

I’m from Canada and I ride a ebike I ride a 12000W ebike and I make sure that I have head light tail light and signal I wear a full face helmet and reflective jacket lights, and signals should be mandatory all around it was sad she died, but she should have worn a helmet. Thank you.

Why, why, why would an "avid cyclist" ride without safety equipment??? I ride a bicycle, an electric stand-up scooter and a full size motorcycle. I never ever go without safety equipment appropriate for the machine I'm riding. You cannot control everything in your environment. You can however control your own actions by always observing proper safety precaustions like wearing a helmet, gloves and other items appropriate to the activity. What is not needed is knee-jerk government action.

Rip to who passed away but enforcing an immediate ban on e-bikes & e-scooters is crazy. Get this guy Joe out of office.

you're opening clips seem to show kids on what looks to be super 73's, 12 year olds are not responsible enough to ride bikes that do 30mph.

The minimum age required to ride an ebike is 16 not 12. Don't punish everyone for the few who are irresponsible.

Looks like the issue wasn't the ebike, but the fact that the lade wasn't wearing a helmet!

A dude I know with a Tot-Gard E-Bike who ran into a kid because he wasn't paying attention.

Banning E-Bikes won't change things.

I do make use of sidewalks. I also keep it on level 1 to keep speed low, keep my fingers on the brake levers, and pay strict attention to what's going on around me.

Mike, there are other comments about this same story here in the Internet, but in my opinion, yours is the very best! Thank you for sharing. I am wondering, if this women that died, if she could now say, " please don't write a new law, this was just an accident!" "I should have really been wearing a helmet and please, don't charge the child". "Accidents do happen, I have been in others in my 66 years of lifetime, and this was just another". For myself, who is in my 80 years of age, was hit last year by a truck while I was riding my 10 speed bicycle on the sidewalk! The driver received a traffic ticket; I was taken by ambulance to a local hospital. A week later, I received a bill from the hospital and doctors, for $15, 000! I am still able to ride my 10 speed bicycle and e-bike; I was lucky!

Regulations are just continuing to grow. A drone pilot has been dealing with a shit ton of them past five years. Now it’s your turn. Go figure just as I was getting into e-bikes myself. The man Always has to be stepping on our toes.

How many kids have been hit on regular bikes?

Hearing that she didn't have a helmet on raises red flags. Most everyone has the education now to know you need to wear a helmet (at a bare minimum) to hopefully survive any crash now in any CITY in the USA. I got my first concusion at age 50 riding a downhillbike at downhill park and wearing full armor and helmet. My point is I survived and walked away to live another day because I wore my protection. Same with motorcycle acidents (on & offroad) I've experienced over the years. The bigger problem is our city streets are no longer safe. Not enough ergress and people not following the rules for a multitude of reasons. I'm sorry for her families loss.

Test riding my new ebike on my street and a neighbor is reversing quickly out of their driveway. He saw me as his truck is out the driveway, stops and says sorry. I wave it off as I was paying attention but someone else not aware could easily have been hit or crashed I to them. It takes common sense from anyone. Banning is definitely not the solution.

Got news for you. I ride an e bike and normal cyclists zoom by me all the time on trails w/o any bell or warning that they're about to pass me. I don't see them getting banned. Kids should not be riding these e bikes, get some exercise by pedaling. Don't be so damn lazy.
