Among the most popular questions being asked by employers today are competency based questions. Competencies are often called “soft skills;” they’re natural talents or personal characteristics that inform the way someone behaves and functions in the workplace. While new hard skills, or specific proficiencies, can be learned through training, competencies are more like personality traits — and they’re consequential for employers increasingly looking at fit, defining a candidate’s overall mindset and work style.
