Marikina City is one of the cleanest city in the Philippines and Southeast Asia. This is the only city in the Philippines that sidewalk vendors don't exist. The City Mayor banned sidewalk vendors and fine those who are patronizing them ( City Ordinance No. 201, passed in 1997 ). If you are caught buying from sidewalk vendor you will face fine of P300.

Thank you for this, I missed seeing Marikina. I grew up there, saw it transformed from a sleepy little town with rough roads, narrow sidewalks (if there were any), and haphazard urban planning, to that through the work of Mayor Bayani Fernando several, decades back. There are more stores and establishments now, more trees with that play park. The once-clay red pavements, their color has faded away. Visit again during the rainy season, I'm sure the colors will pop out more.

The lack of road noise and noisy car horns was very nice. I was in India pre pandemic where dirty streets and dirty parks are common but what was
more annoying was the traffic noise. Car horns simply will not stop. I swear my hearing has gone bad while I was there. My next destination will be Southeast Asia. The Philippines is on my list.

Matagal nang disiplinado tao dyan. I remember dumaan yung sasakyan namin sa Marikina yung FX pa noon, malinis talaga kahit yung mga neighborhood dyan. Plano ko ring tumira sa Marikina dahil nga sumusunod sila sa batas.
Ang nagustuhan ko pa sa Marikina marami silang parks at ang mga buildings hindi matataas para may Japan town na feels.
