I FILMED a BEAR HUNT with Just My CELL PHONE! | MONTANA SPRING BEAR

In a recent meeting, the Fresh Tracks crew came up with the idea of doing a self filmed hunt only using your cell phone. With most of the team busy working on other projects; Dale Evans heads out to achieve the goal of filming himself taking a Montana spring black bear with just the cell phone in his pocket.

Hunting a place he knows well, Dale gets a taste of every type of weather that spring in Montana can throw at you. He finds a nice bear early on in the hunt, and waits for his opportunity to present itself.

Well done Dale. You have a great personality for the camera. Anybody that has hunted much has had stretches of time where you begin to wonder if will ever be possible to lay eyes on the animal you're after.

This episode is a great success. It nicely shows a hunt, the things that go right, the things that don't, the pleasures, the trials, the successes and the failures. Your B roll was particularly nice. Using a cell phone camera can certainly capture a hunt. Well done, sir, for going ahead with this experiment.

I also use cellphone as my primary device filming hunts. I bring a go pro to shoot special angles to conserve battery, and film simultaneously my surroundings and what's in my scope. This is useful shen taking shots. I sometimes also use slow motion instead of 4k to film shots, just in case I want to slow it down.

Thank you for showing your unproductive days. My whole bear season was like this, and I like to see that this isn’t completely abnormal!

So cool. Definitely opens perspective on what you can do with just a cellphone. Might need to try this myself

Cool video. I use my phone a lot too when making youtube videos.

Excellent video!

I don't know about you... but obviously looking back on this hunt I'd probably try to find a more remote area. However... that's why it's called hunting and not shooting.
Thanks for sharing this brother 🙂

Best of luck to you and your wife in your future hunts.

Nice video! Your video is very steady. Did you use a small tripod? Glad to see your wife along! More female hunting content please!

Noname amateur Vblogger's nickles worth:
A cell phone is definitely a multi use item: GPS, and adaptable video camera. Decent audio, decent video, easy video playback, and ability to zoom. Unlike an action camera which is decent video depending on setting, crappy audio, sucky playback, and extra weight. That said, getting those "glory shots" is easier with a 1 button push action camera.
Do take care of your phone however. Cold weather is murder to your phones battery life. I just had the battery replaced in mine a month or so ago. In the future, I'll probably use an action camera during the winter months, even though the battery life is like.... 5 minutes. Action camera batteries are cheap and easily replaced. Phone battery replacement is more involved.

Thank you for sharing this hunt. Got some good quality video on your cell phone 📱. I need to get a Phone scope adapter to help me be hands free. We have a couple tripods that I could use already.

Good video with the cell phone. I started messing around a little bit last year, sending the clips to my parents. Is there an editing app or software? I have a horseback trip (archery elk drop camp) with my dad this September I'd like to get on video.

Nice work. What tripod do you use for the spotter, or do you know the weight of it?

I like it But what did you use to hold the cell phone ?

The content and the self-filming idea is great. Question: You have a bunch of video documenting the hunt, what computer editor do you utilize to put it all together as a final product?

Dale, think about doing sports broadcasting on the side as you have a great-sounding voice.
