Claus Ogerman, a German born composer, arranger, conductor and orchestrator, really is a multi-talented musician who has worked with the biggest names in the music industry. The list of his work is impressive and seems endless ... Antonio Carlos Jobim, Connie Francis, Andre Kostelanetz, Kai Winding, Max Greger, Kurt Edelhagen, Lesley Gore, George Benson and Diana Krall : all of them performed songs and tunes that were arranged (or composed) by Ogerman. In the 1950's Ogerman mainly composed filmmusic for a series of German movies. In 1959 he went to the US and joined Verve Music, later he signed a contract with A&M Records. Under the label of RCA Victor he issued some albums with his orchestra and from one of these ("Watusi Trumpets") comes this catchy "funtune" "One step above" (when hearing the tune you'll soon understand why the piece got this title)
So, to cut a long story short, in this case, there's a "musical giant" "hiding" behind this "cheerful little earful" :-)
From the 1965 album "Claus Ogerman and His Orchestra - Watusi trumpets" here's Claus Ogerman with "One step above". Happy listening !
