have you ever wondered why we have a, b, c, d, and f grades but not e? the reason is actually pretty simple. back in the day, e grades were actually used. but there was a problem. students and parents began to interpret e as meaning excellent instead of failure, which caused confusion. to avoid this confusion, schools replaced e with f as the word fail starts with the letter f which made more sense.
