Alpine Butterfly Loop: Twist, Fold, and Tuck!

The Alpine Butterfly Knot forms an excellent loop which can be tied in the middle of a line. It retains a good portion of the strength of the line, and is relatively secure, although under some conditions it will slip below the breaking strength of the line.

Harry Asher says of the Alpine Butterfly Knot:

"Mountaineers use this loop round the chest, and it is one that is hard to beat for general purposes, being quickly tied, pulling up without the loop shrinking, and breaking [untying] readily. Because it is symmetrical, it holds equally well whichever end is held." -The Alternative Knot Book, pg. 79

I use this knot to lash down a large complicated loads . Use the eyes for multiple anchor points. To stop any shifting.
Then all the knots are easy to undo to put the rope away, ready for the next job.
