What's Pokemon Unbound?

I played the fan game Pokémon Unbound. Not only was this a continuation of Kalos lore, but a whole new story offering Pokémon fans a new experience.

One word: Polish. Pokemon Unbound is one of the most polished Pokemon game I ever played. My favorite way to play is to set the puzzles to easy (I hate puzzles in Pokemon games.) and the battles to difficult. This game, IMO, really shines on that difficulty.

I finished playing the game on december 2022 and it's such a good game. Now i'm just checking this game's status on youtube for the final update. It's been almost 1 year now and still no update, i hope they could finish this game cuz i genuinely loved playing this game.

My favorite fan game/rom hack. Honestly better than any official Pokemon game, and I've played 'em all (up until Gen 7). Unbound has the best story, the most fleshed out characters, and the most accessible Pokemon.

14:11 They do actually tell you that you don't need to learn HM. I remember they specifically tell you that as long as a Pokemon is capable of learning the HM move(and you have the required Gym badge), you can use the HM without learning it.
But one of the features I loved the most was that they make a lot of things make sense in the game. For example, Garchomp is outright stated to fly at very high speeds, and is clearly strong enough to carry it's Trainer too, but you can't fly on your Garchomp in the main games, but in Unbound, you can fly on your Garchomp.
Same with Metagross, he's always shown to levitate, but the mainline games never utilize that, but this game does. But just because Metagross can fly, the game doesn't let that interfere with the battle mechanics by making it immune to Ground types even though he should be.
Similarly, the Pyroar that you evolve in this game has a Hidden Ability called Royal Roar which is a Sp Attack version of Moxie. In the main line games, Pyroar gets Moxie, but Pyroar's a Sp Attacker, not physical, so what's Moxie doing for it? Yes it does give him Attack boost, but he'll clearly benefit more from Sp Attack boost, and this game knows that.
Then, in the Post Game, you capture all these Legendaries only to deposit them in your PC, but this game gives you a reason to use them. There's a mission where, you have to beat the Pokemon League challenge, using monotype teams, meaning all the Pokemon on the team should share a type. That makes it so that you have a reason to make 18 different teams, other that your main team to beat the League. Moreover it's optional, so your don't HAVE to do it. But it's really refreshing for those who chose to do it.
And there are MANY of such minute things, which fixes the many problems in the actual mainline games. I think the Pokemon company has a lot to learn from this game in a good way, because in many ways, this games a straight upgrade on the actual games.
In short, went into this game as"just another fangame this time Hoopa as MC", but was pleasantly surprised. So give it a try. You'll surprise yourself.

One thing about this game i love is the sheer amount of content because i could spend like 200 hours and i still wouldnt finish the mission catalogue. A lot of the missions are so fun because theres something a little story behind it and dont make it feel like a grind for most of it apart from the borrius dex and the research facility missions.

The creator actually created a battle engine for this game which was used for future rom hacks such as radical red

Yh in my opinion this is the best rom hack of all time

Picked it up last Oct. This is literally the first pokemon game that kept me engaged enough that I completed the story. Normally I get bored by the 4th or 5th gym. Slogging through the post game before I try NG+

The trainers switching out Pokemon for type advantage and using complementary items is phenomenal in this game make it so much harder. I don't if it just cause I'm on the difficult setting so much fun.

I just picked it up last night, the level of nostalgia from really “feeling” something from a pokemon game made me cry. I remember getting pokemon crystal and the guide book when I was like 8, and the feeling of that really came up starting this game. Pokemon company is doing a horrendous job right now, I have no interest in anything they’re doing. I really hope people keep making fan games because there’s a level of heart in them that the pokemon company is completely lacking.

The Internet Archive is down this week. Me needing the Squirrels version of Fire Red this made it hard to find. Luckily I found one, wasnt sure if it was legit. Created a patch crossed my toes and it I am beyond sick and might just lay in bed play this on my phone with my dusty Back Bone controller :)

And from what I tried to look for, there aren't many videos that help me, I even found people with the same problem. If this question is too "silly", I'm sorry, I usually end up not understanding certain things well 😅.

I actually liked that you were talking about it. It would be nice to see a bit more game, but it was balanced enough for me not to notice. I was so sick of all the play throughs. I dont have time to play through it myself, so a summary was nice.

Do you guys think there will be a version update ?, cause i feel there are alot of things which are clearly not completed like we never saved our dad from cube dimension, we cant enter cube corp building, there are some npcs which talk about things like them discovering something with professor log that they shouldnt have, it all implies something big is going on aside the team shadow stuff i feel like science society is true evil team like alot of there researchers all over the region have done some serious stuff .

The game is a blast and the best one since Gaia having in-battle Mega Evolutions, and Fairy Type. I've cleared the game in Vanilla difficulty with Metagross, Altaria, Houndoom, Primarina, Gardevoir, and Lucario. The gameplay is good despite of having gimmicks to all Gyms and Elite Four, which I disliked.
