Fucking finally, someone who tests the Mac Mini in real life scenarios instead of pointless export tests. Appreciate the detail you put into this in terms of editing and color grading in Premiere. Helps you give a good idea of what this machine is capable of for its price. Thank you. Subbed.

I’m shocked there aren’t more videos like this, everyone’s just testing read/write and other specs, so thank you for providing a live example of what most people will be doing. I was gonna get into video editing with one of these so I think I’m gonna go for the 16/512 base model and use the money I save by not going for the pro model on a good monitor and accessories. Thanks again!

Finally a real life test, i hate those "benchmark" tests, i don't care if a project exports 30 seconds faster then before. It exactly the workflow that is important to me. And like you said, its the standard editing that most people do, or me atleast. Thanks for the video!

I was looking for this video. I bought the base model for 499, then realized I needed more ram, so I coughed up the 180 extra dollars for 16 gigs for students, and bought a 2TB nand external ssd for 200$. Going through Apple for the storage is insane for the same amount of storage. Total for the mini680$(student) and 200$ for the external storage. Not bad Keep it up dude. You kept it professional and gave good insight.

oh my God, finally! I was looking for video like this, M2 to scrubbing AE timeline, and do the work, not just showing how fast it can render.
You're amazing man, this video helps me a lot as a motion designer that looking to replace my iMac 2015

I do digital art. I have the M2 mini 8gb/512gb model. I purposefully made a photoshop project 4000x4000 350dpi with about 82 layers (drawing on them all) and had zero noticeable slowdown.

I’d say unless you life depends on running 20 tabs and rendering massive projects all at the same time, your fine with base models. The machine is amazing.

I have a base model as well as a Pro model. The base model is Really good. I can always recommend people go to 16GB but anyone on a budget, buy the $599 model. You WILL love it..

Thank you, Tony. This is one incredible live test. I think after watching this what I might do is buy the Basic version. Learn as much as I can, and when I get a paid editing client, then consider trading into Apple for something more powerful. This should get me through the learning phase. My hope is that you continue your videos with a focus on editing for Creators. What skills we need and what to practice on.

Thank you for this. I admit, I've found myself floundering when choosing my next Mac; part of it was from being burned on a 2018 i7, 32 GB Ram Mini which was recommended for my workflows by Apple and Adobe. Got it on release date, but it's slower than an arthritic sloth already. So this time I was eyeing up a Mac Studio or M2 Pro Mini.

I didn't need to though, my colleague went for a 16GB M2 Mini with 512GB ssd; watching him editing 4k footage and creating an animated series on it over the last few days, it's handling it fine. After the education discount, it comes up to £800, which just seems insane for what it can do. I'm tempted to follow him.

Hey Tony. I'm from Poland. I live in Norway. Most of the Polish channels criticize this equipment, saying it sucks. Thanks for the great video that gives me the opportunity to buy a Macmini M2. For a year I have been wondering if I was doing the right thing by buying this Macmini. Thanks thanks. You give hope, man. More such honest and reliable films please. Thanks, great. Regards, Tom.

I just produced a 30GB 4k video with all the bells and whistles on FCP Mac Mini M2Pro w 32GB ram. (no other upgrades) It rendered the 30 GB in 90 seconds. Uploading it to Youtube took three hours due to a slow internet. BUTT! The quality of it's final product was awesome! Far better than the same event using my Alienware R13! FYI: There were hick-ups when adding titles and text, but only momentarily. Very pleased. Not sure how it would've worked out without having the PRO and 32 GB Ram...

Most people using it for that kind of work should definitely upgrade to 16GB of RAM, I don't think the SSD upgrade is needed since thunderbolt external SSD work pretty fast. Also I have a feeling it would work much better if you're not screen recording. It's nice to see a realistic test, most youtubers are using negative thumbnails and titles to get more views, and using unrealistic workflows to make the mac mini look bad. When in fact it's a really powerful machine and the SSD speed is not an issue at all if you pick the correct one for your workflow.

thank you so much for this video tony. i have the base 8g ram m2 mini with a 2 tb external hard drive to keep the mini as "empty" as possible. i purchased it for the obvious basic browsing, normal home use. but recently my family have been taking more vacations and i was thinking of buying an action camera. would my base mac mini be ok just to edit short 5-10 min 1080p, 1440p or possibly 4k family adventure/vacation videos on imovie?

Already people told you that what you are doing is right and what are they doing is wrong and just wasting their time so thank you from my side also thank you from India that you did whatever we wanted to see and you gave us the decision to buy the right mac.

Decided that don't buy the base model because that is good for beginners but not good for professionals who are into their intermediate career level and clients are always asking for 4K videos including Adobe after effects.

And the same computer will also be doing IOS and Android development.
