As the political tussle in Rivers State continues to fester, the gladiators are unrelenting in bringing more turmoil in the state. This time, the Martin Amaewhule-led Rivers State House of Assembly and the faction loyal to Governor Siminalayi Fubara have initiated a fresh round of crisis. On Tuesday, the Amaewhule faction declared the seats of four of their colleagues loyal to Governor Fubara vacant over absenteeism. Reacting, the pro-Fubara faction, led by Victor Oko-Jumbo insisted that Amaewhule and his group have ceased to be lawmakers in the State. The group called on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC to conduct by-election to fill the vacant seats. The new power play followed the battle for the political control of the state between Governor Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike.

Uncle Jide, I've watched you with keen interest over the years and I'd like to thank you for your role, and comments so far.
However, in this Rivers HOA matter, permit me to share my opinion.
I would like to respectfully express my disagreement regarding the need for the court to declare the seats vacant. The Constitution is explicit on this issue: when lawmakers defect from the political party through which they were elected, they automatically lose their seats. This interpretation does not require judicial intervention. The courts typically become involved only when a party, in this case, the defected lawmakers, seeks to act contrary to constitutional provisions.
My primary concern lies with this APC's infested judiciary reliability in delivering sound judgments. We are watching. Thanks

The woman was making a whole lot of sense before jide interrupted her, how does this show professionalism, you had your time to speak and u won’t let others talk

Jide spoke for 12 minutes out of 14 minutes allocated for the issue without allowing the other guest to contribute. It might be best to let Jide handle the program on his own if he continues to dominate the conversation and not give space for the invited guests to participate.

Jide you don’t know what your are talking about. It is not the responsibility of the court to decide if martins and co has defected, it is their personal decision.what the court has to do is to determine wether they are still members of the house after they voluntarily defected. You have reduced yourself to nothing

Jide i appreciate ur submission in this platform... The court of public opinion analysis and public conscience has nothing to do with the court of law... The law doesn't associate with emotions period..

So what has Jide said wrong that everyone is insulting him? He just said the courts will decide the case, , period. We should stop being sentimental about issues!

I like the way BKO is dishing it out to some rodents in the comment section. They are really pained because BKO failed to say what they will like to hear. But truth to be told, he says it the way it is. Nigeria is not a Banana Republic where only 4 members of the house of assembly of 31 members to control the affairs of the state. Let the court decide the fate of the members and the gov.

Mr Babajide, if a serving lawmaker dies, do you have to go to court before his seat can be declared vacant?

If INEC is not complying with their civic responsibility then the Rivers state people should go on one day protest to demand INEC to do the needful. This is the way forward and very urgent action please.

Anyone supporting mr. Wike will always love to hear from this mr. jide!

With the present bulaba in our judicial system I dont think any good judgment will come from them.

One thing is certain, A day will come when we all will stand before the Ultimate Judge to give account of all our deeds here on earth.

Very biased man. He keeps asking where in the world do 4 law makers sit. But he didn't ask where in the world that lawmakers defect and the defection supported by court affidavit and public announcement, yet such men remain lawmakers, and later claim they never defected? Where in the world. The biased journalist wouldn't talk about it. These are the people that continue to parade Nigeria as a banana republic.

The Supreme Court has ruled that losing seat upon defection is automatic, and a journalist can't overcome his sentiments a in public platform. The ondo lawmakers that he cited, he seems to forget that their seats were declared vacant upon defection and they never operated as lawmakers even as they challenged the case. Till now, they never came back. He is hanging on judiciary because they know how it works today. The right thing to do in Rivers State is for INEC to hold by election to fill the vacant seats of the the lawmakers who have defected to APC. Simple. In the meantime, the remaining members of the house will be functioning.
