Can Dehydration Cause A Stroke?
Показать описание
Dehydration causes your blood to thicken, making the flow to the brain difficult. When your blood tries to get through blocked blood vessels, a stroke can occur.
Studies show that those who are well hydrated when they suffer a stroke have a greater chance of a better outcome. According to study published in Journal of Frontiers in Neurology (March, 2019) _ Dehydration is a treatable risk factor of a poor functional outcome after stroke that is present in 9% of patients. Females and elders present a higher risk of dehydration.
Daily recommendations for staying hydrated include drinking a minimum of one cup of water for every 20 pounds of your body weight. It’s important to start your morning with water and to stay hydrated throughout the day.
Dehydration can also lead to or worsen the heat associated illness known as heatstroke. Even though heatstroke is not a cardiac issue, it too can be fatal and affect your neurological health. Development of heatstroke has also been linked with long-term cardiovascular problems.
Heatstroke can be due to prolonged heat exposure, exercising in warm temperatures, or prolonged sauna use. Heatstroke is possible If you fail to don’t drink enough water to replenish fluids you lose through sweating. Drinking alcohol or wearing clothing that keeps sweat from evaporating or cooling your body can also lead to development of heatstroke.
