Drag Race: Audi RS3 vs Mercedes A45 AMG

Fresh from a recent (and very closely-fought) victory over the BMW M2, the Mercedes-AMG A45 4MATIC lines up against Audi’s fiery five-pot RS3 Sportback in a no-holds-barred all-wheel drive straight-line shootout.

Both are five-door hatchbacks. Both feature all-wheel drive. And while the Mercedes-AMG has more power, the Audi hits back with a lighter kerb weight. Can the A45 continue its winning streak or will the RS3 be the new champ? Let’s see how it plays out over a 380-metre drag race.

Car Magazine did the same drag race with the same cars, and the A45 won by the same margin. Just shows it's down to the driver, not the power under the bonnet.

All this hate.. What people dont realise is that the RS3 is now coming out with a 294kw Engine, with 480nm of Torque, And Audi stated that their new super hatch/sedan should be able to do 0-100kmph in 4.1secs..

Where did you get that Audi kerb weight figure of 1485kg from? According to the UK specsheet, it is 1520 kg unladen kerb DIN (which has 90% fuel but NO driver or luggage). Unladen EU which includes driver and luggage adds another 75kg which is 1595 kg, if that is included.

From what I know about the merc 4Matic system is that it's front wheel drive until the wheels start to slip or while cornering, so that's why the merc lost traction

I may not know what haldex is, but what I do know is that Audi's quattros has always been the best. Same as I believe cars.co.za's drag races are not biased. Fair and square, unlike some other chancer's channels. If Merc found it advantageous to distribute more power to front wheels to reach better results, well that's as far as they could get. Spinning wheels before the car moves is "the best or nothing" they are talking about. Obviously the RS3 has always been on top! That's a fact
