I created art as a child and as a young adult because I could not read or write and use art to communicate. I did teach myself to read and write and at the age of 45, I achieved my lifetime dream of completing a bachelor's honors degree in contemporary art practice which I got a first-class honors degree. I love your advice and videos, I am slowly trying to adjust and be in front of the camera. Thanks

What I did was something crazy on my first art sale: I made up a number and to my surprise the buyer bought it at that price. The price- $1400. It was some random thing on Facebook. I didn’t even list it on Marketplace. Just posting in progress shots. Now one of the frustrating things I see locally is artists frequently low balling their art. Like so low they barely make back supplies used. My advice to artists is don’t do that. Also avoid selling in galleries that take more than 30% commission. They’re increasingly becoming unnecessary in the new century as people are getting more comfortable buying online direct from the artist.

I keep hearing the basics you’re suggesting in this video. I mean MANY websites, videos, blogs, etc. buuuut, it seems to ACTUALLY make sense coming from you. Your delivery is right up my alley, thanks for the knowledge nuggets!!!

You really changed my perspective today and I thank you. So much advice I've heard to date is to "find your niche" ---a thing that bedeviled me as I don't have "a niche" without lopping off whole parts of myself. I contain multitudes, right? What's the niche? What's the niche? WHAT IS the niche???? I would torment myself, feeling like I was forcing myself to back into a box and not go forward. But thanks to your thoughts here, I realized it's not about Nicheland, it's about Uniqueville. You ARE the niche. BE the niche. Brilliant.

I'm 63 and although having created art since age 5, I have only referred to myself as an artist once. I recently found your channel and must say I agree with your opinions and ideas moreso than any other artist I have known. I'm a full-time caretaker for my wife who suffered a severe stroke and heart attack 10 years ago and I'm in no way blaming her, nor my position for refraining from creating art. Sometimes life has different paths it wants us to take. I simply wanted to tell you I find both your art and your character wicked beautiful. Congratulations on your new studio. I can't wait to see what you do with all that room. I just bought a new house with a perfect basement for a studio and after watching your video, your energy instilled within me a need in getting back to my love of art. Thank you.

At 10:40
I never looked at it as me- my art. I've always kept my personal life in private, but you've made me realize that it's good to show a little bit of me so that it can be related to my art.
It makes a lot of sense!

I so needed this video!! At the beginning of making my artistic endeavours into a business. And recently realized I need to find my own unique style and I’m excited as an idea came to me that I still have to implement. But…I’m excited to go and run with it. I might be 42 years old, single mama with 4 kiddos and started painting after a massive mental breakdown and hospitalization and some crazy big life changes. It’s not too late!

So happy for your big sale, here's to your art reaching higher numbers. I myself am doing the transition of doing just fanart to working on my original art after many years of setting it aside.

This is one of the best videos explaining how and why to "sell" yourself and your work. Love the painting at the beginning, too!

Loved your story time! And it helped me see the point of showing myself as an artist…a real person making art! So good! Thanks.

You're very intelligent and articulate. Not to mention an excellent painter! I admire that with this video, you are doing, what you are talking about.

All you need is trust your talent. If it is liked, someone will buy it. Forget about critics and galleries who push some for their own account and greed. Art remains a gift. Share it profoundly.

I started drawing horses because I wanted one. I paint now to process my emotions. Thanks for sharing your story. The only tip I have for artists is to NOT under price your art. Your time and talent are worthy.

You are so right about wanting to know the artist when you purchase a painting. When I research an artist I read the bio first. Well done for having your boy at 16. Very brave. Life is so much better with children. They make life fun. Happy painting

I think that painting you sold is worth double what you got for it. It’s incredible.
I’m enjoying and learning a lot from your YouTubes.
Thank you!
