I played corporate league soccer in Japan for several years and saw how players come out of high school with really good fundamentals. It was certainly on display in this game.

Don’t think I’ve ever in my life seen so many back and sideways passes. Lack of creativity and everyone seemed to be afraid of running at their opponents with the ball.

I was at this game, the small japanese section were the only ones cheering the whole time, that drum you hear is theirs, it was a fun experience sitting with them.

😂😂 japan u23 might just be better than our senior national team too btw. look at those style, everyone knows what they’re doing. one two touch, no wasted movement. very fluid. it looks like i’m watching spain national team, everyone is good on the ball

I always enjoy watching Japan's national teams. They are usually always technical and respectful. So good to watch teams that are clean and not all tatted up like clowns.

from Youth Soccer Clubs to colleges we parents spending billions of dollars every year, this is the end result. it's been like this for many decades. To USA soccer top leadership group, it's time to change top to bottom. this team seems to work hard but missed so many football basics.

a huge problem with players today is they don't know where their teammates are until they get the ball..you never see first touch passes..US Soccer needs a concerted effort to saturate the country with quality futsal courts ..use unused basketball courts ..there isn't better training than futsal to teach holding the ball under pressure ..US Soccer needs change at the top..failing miserably

It is hard for me to decide which phase of the US game was worst: Offense or Defense. It is clear the next group coming up for the US will not be inspiring if this was any indication.

U.S. defensive players not taking the space and passing way too soon so Japan can adjust

US is doomed. Pay to play, only rich kids get a shot. Soccer is declining in the US, I see it with my own eyes.

I can't believe they didn't bring Luna. This game was screaming for some Moon-boy creativity in the attack.
