DIY Window Boxes & Gallows Brackets | The Carpenter's Daughter

I've wanted to make some flower window boxes with wooden angle brackets for a few weeks now.

I was quite nervous about getting the structure right overall, because I wanted something that lasted. So, this week, I decided to drive to pay a visit to my Dad's woodyard in Doncaster for a day of learning.

I fell in love with some planters in this style that had been made for a customer. But I honestly thought they'd be too heavy to work and my Dad assured me they'd be fine. And guess what? THEY ARE! :)

So here's the things I used to make it:

How lucky you are you still have your dad and get to spend time learning and working along side of him Vikkie. Those boxes are not cheap to buy I know that for sure. A great job done by you both! They turned out really beautiful too!! Thanks for sharing!

I absolutely adore your enthusiasm!
That looks like a quick, fun build!

Well done. Looks great. My only advice would be around 3:45. The drill wobbles like that as the drill bit isn't lined up in the chuck. With pressure it could snap. Easy fix, take it out line up and tighten. 😊

Nice job! With all of the work you've been doing to your property, I think I might want to buy it when you move.

Great build! Simple, effective but really look great. I love the overlaps on the corners, great design choice. 👍👍

Oh wow these flower boxes are so cool! I love this, may try and have my own go at making one as my garden could do with a few of these

Fantastic DIY video. Even I could do this! The layering effect looks great, probably strengthens the piece and solves a lot of the problems novices like me have in making the piece look tidy.

Well done, pretty nice to have a Dad with a lumber yard. Those large radial arm saws are a bit scary.

A job well done, Vikkie. :-) Those kind of planter boxes can be surprisingly expensive to buy and yet quite simple to make.

It's not right if there isn't a dog right in the middle of what's going on, Love it well done.

A very clever design. Personally I would leave an air gap, 6mm, between the wall and the box. That should allow the timber to dry evenly and prevent water, and wood preservative, staining the walls when it rains.
Time to buy yourself an sds drill, they are so more efficient than cordless drills.
No one forgets the first time they shoot themselves with a nail gun:()
