Looks to me like Beatty was thrown under the bus.  He didn't announce the wrong movie, he was given the wrong information, obviously knew something was odd, but read it as he was supposed to do.  I'm not a Hollywood fan, but Beatty is not a feeble old man.  He is a very intelligent man, a class act, and has done very good work over the years.
