An Underrated Biblical Proof for Jesus' Deity

One of the most common objections to Christianity is that the deity of Jesus was invented by later Christians long after the first century. No early Christians believed Jesus was pre-existent, let alone God. It was only until 325 AD did the council of Nicea declare him to be God. There's an underrated passage in 1 Corinthians that disproves this notion.

Pliny the Younger, the Roman leader of Bithynia (modern Turkey) wrote a letter to Emperor Trajan around AD 112 and asked for counsel on dealing with the early Christian community. He wrote: ''They meet on a certain day before light where they gather and sing hymns to Christ as to a god''

If the Council of Nicaea codified the deity of Jesus, then that must mean that a majority of people at the council already believed in it. The idea that the council made it up is silly.

Thanks for making this video. Paul, a 1st century Jew, saying, "Jesus is Lord, " means the same as a 21st century Jew saying, "Y'shua is Adonai." No Jew would doubt what is intended. And it can only be interpreted as the Holy Spirit in action or utter blasphemy, depending on whether you are alive to the Truth or dead in your sins.

“He was despised and rejected— a man of sorrows, acquainted with deepest grief. We turned our backs on him and looked the other way. He was despised, and we did not care. Yet it was our weaknesses he carried; it was our sorrows that weighed him down. And we thought his troubles were a punishment from God, a punishment for his own sins! But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed. All of us, like sheep, have strayed away. We have left God’s paths to follow our own. Yet the Lord laid on him the sins of us all. He was oppressed and treated harshly, yet he never said a word. He was led like a lamb to the slaughter. And as a sheep is silent before the shearers, he did not open his mouth. Unjustly condemned, he was led away. No one cared that he died without descendants, that his life was cut short in midstream. But he was struck down for the rebellion of my people. He had done no wrong and had never deceived anyone. But he was buried like a criminal; he was put in a rich man’s grave. But it was the Lord’s good plan to crush him and cause him grief. Yet when his life is made an offering for sin, he will have many descendants. He will enjoy a long life, and the Lord’s good plan will prosper in his hands. When he sees all that is accomplished by his anguish, he will be satisfied. And because of his experience, my righteous servant will make it possible for many to be counted righteous, for he will bear all their sins. I will give him the honors of a victorious soldier, because he exposed himself to death. He was counted among the rebels. He bore the sins of many and interceded for rebels.”

"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life." John 3:16
God loves you so much and showed that by sending His Son to die for us so that we may inherit eternal life. We deserve hell but He gave us heaven through faith in Jesus. He took the punishment we deserved and by putting our faith in Him we can be saved. The Key To Eternal Life:

Excellent overview. Are you planning to go over more examples of Jesus as the κυριος of Septuagint YHWH texts? Not only does Paul make extensive use of that identification, but we also see it in other biblical books (e.g. 1 Peter). It's definitely, to me, one of the most fascinating aspects of early Christology.

Church fater Justin Martyr, who died in 165 AD, had a long quote where he explicirly said that all the physical manifestations of Yahweh in the old testament where Christophanies (he did not use that term) and that when Israel thought they were looking at God the Father it was God the Son they were seeing. I used that quote in my book on Early Genesis. I can look it up if you are interested.

Those were amazing Scriptural parallels between the Old and the New Testament pertaining to the deity of the Lord Jesus Christ. I never really saw those till now–though I have always believed in Christʼs divinity as attested in the Gospels and Pauline letters.

Your work is amazing, brother. I pray that God will use your ministry all the more to reach more skeptics and unbelieving people.

Soli Deo gloria!

These are so good. Thank you for what you do. Would you consider addressing some of the challenges Shaykh Uthman throws at random people on the street who aren’t well versed with the Bible. It’s something muslims are picking up on in challenging the Bible.

Not sure how I just watched an unlisted video, but I did somehow. Great video, but you might want to double check your settings. I think I found it via the "Deity of Christ" playlist if that helps at all.

Again, great video, though!

Edit: after some more investigation by myself, I think this was intended only for your Patreon audience, but I was apparently able to still find it anyway through the "Deity of Christ" playlist on your public page.

How ironic that this came up right after I finished watching an old Alpha & Omega episode with Dr. White talking with a Hebrew Roots guy.

All four gospel writers identified John the Baptist using the same passage from Isaiah 40:3, indicating agreement in the early Church regarding what role John played in the Jesus story. John's gospel gives us some alternative points of view they could have taken (John 1:19-23), and in fact Jesus Himself identified John with Elijah (Matthew 11:14, tying him to Malachi 4:5). But to all four gospel writers, he was the voice in the wilderness. Whose way was he preparing? YHWH. And who showed up? Jesus.

So all four gospels attest to Jesus being YHWH.

I was raised trinitarian Christian, deconstructed to atheism through scientific schooling, and returned to YHWH through the salvation of Yeshua many years ago. I recently started using the Logos app to understand the true meaning of the original sacred text. As a result, it seems clear the issue of Christ's deity, or lack thereof, is an issue with translation. As such, I do not hold the view that anyone is heretical for their understanding, or lack thereof, scripture. This point is actually the main qualm I have with trinitarian doctrine now. I believe YHWH will wake up those who wish to know the truth and study the text themselves.

Thank you for taking the time to evangelize and spread the truth of YHWH and salvation through his Son, Yeshua. I would, however, like to point out a few things related to this video for the casual observer.

1. Yes, Jesus, the Son of God, existed prior to his appearing as Yeshua in the flesh. The reference to the Israelites drinking from the Rock is correct, and Christ is that Rock, but this does not imply eternal being or equality to YHWH. This is a presupposed, begging the question fallacy.

2. 1 Corinthians 10:22 - Paul is not referring to Yeshua when he says "Shall we provoke the Lord to jealousy?" The conflation of the word 'Lord' in the NT is perhaps the leading cause of confusion on this topic. There is always a difference though, derived from context, between references to the salvation received through Christ (our Lord) and attributes of, or references to, YHWH (Almighty God, the Father). To presuppose Paul is referring to Yeshua's jealousy, which is never mentioned anywhere else in the NT, rather than the jealousy of YHWH (Almighty God), which is mentioned many times throughout the OT, is another begging the question fallacy.

3. It should be noted that none of what I have said takes away from anything written in the Bible with regards to who Yeshua is in his Kingship at the right hand of the Father, and rather, it only further exalts the name of YHWH, the Father, who, according to Paul in 1 Corinthians, is the One True God. I love Yeshua in all of his glory and power, which the Father has given to him.

1 Corinthians 8:6 ESV "..there is actually to us one God, the Father, from whom all things are and we for him; and there is one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things are and we through him." 1 Corinthians 8:6 ESV

Thanks for reading. Yah Bless!

"And the LORD spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend. And he turned again into the camp: but his servant Joshua, the son of Nun, a young man, departed not out of the tabernacle." Exodus 33:11

I see this as a picture of Christ.
