ABSTRACT: Variable renewable energy sources like wind and solar are abundant, clean, and inexpensive but they need energy storage to make them deliverable on demand. Shorter duration battery storage solutions are helping manage peak loads today, but longer duration solutions that can store days' worth of electricity are needed to power the grid with 24/7 renewable energy.
Ramya Swaminathan, CEO of Malta Inc, a developer of a novel long-duration energy storage system, will discuss the market dynamics driving the energy transition and the need for long-duration energy storage. She will explain the Malta system, its unique benefits, and the opportunities and challenges presenting innovative new energy companies like Malta. Finally, Ramya will talk about her growing role advising the US and foreign governments on the energy transition.
