ChatGPT vs. Advent of Code 2023 Day 3: Gear Ratios

Yesterday was a good Advent of Code day for ChatGPT, will it prevail today as well?

I'm glad to see it tripping up on things like this, because it gives me hope that human mental agility and reasoning will still be valued.

I tried the same thing. I added to the end of each part of the question the words, "My advice: Include logging so you can debug it if it does not work the first time. Always check your code against the simple example before trying the full input.". This made it much more persistent and it solved part 1 first try. It got into a lengthy test/retry cycle on part 2 but did not find a solution and eventually said, "Stopped analyzing". I suspect this puzzle requires some spatial reasoning that is a weak part of ChatGPT.
