I'd agree that reducing the question to quantity or length of time is simplistic. I would think the more important objective aspect of prayer is its quality, or its substance. That seems like the more important difference between the prayers of the two forms of the Mass. For example, it's hard to see how the emphasis on the sacrificial nature of the Mass in the prayers of the TLM could be considered objectively and qualitatively equivalent to the general lack thereof in the NO, when that sacrifice is the essence of the Mass.

One further thing that occurs to me with an overemphasis on subjective disposition for the reception of grace is that it renders the silent prayers of the canon meaningless for everyone except the priest. If the priest says those prayers and the layman can't hear them, doesn't have a missal to read them in, is poorly catechized, or what have you - does that render them ineffective for that person? Or does it just render the content of the prayers irrelevant, so long as the layman is vaguely united in prayer to the action at the altar? I would have a hard time accepting that view.

I think both can give the same grace but the problem with the novus ordo for me is the abuses that you see in a lot of parishes, the problem for me is not the rite itself, but the tlm doesn't have that possibility for you to make an abuse that easy as in the novus ordo

The recent Eucharistic miracles ALL happened in NO Masses. This proves that God has approved the NO and offers His grace abundantly in NO Masses.

I think we need to make a *distinction* between intrinsic and extrinsic merit of the Mass.

While both Masses have the same intrinsic merit (since both are representing Christ's sacrifice the merit is infinite) but the extrinsic merit IS different.
