Don't forget, part of a Jesters job was to show the king/queen's humility. If the monarch killed the Jester for any reason that wasn't legal (EG, killing someone or corruption) then it broadcast to the realm that "Your king as absolutely no chill and can't take a joke" and hurt their diplomatic reputation for the same reason.

Like how English kings would have one of their nobles help them in the "chaimber", including washing and emptying. Which was highly shought after as they where often allowed to give advice to the monarch.
