How to Tie the Halyard Hitch to a Spar or Stanchion

This version of the Halyard Hitch is often used when you want to secure a line to a rail, stanchion or spar. This is an extremely good and sturdy way of securing a line to a stanchion. There is also the Halyard Hitch that is tied to a ring or shackle. I came across this particular way of attaching a line to a post many years ago. I have only ever seen it referenced in a book by Geoffrey Budworth, but I think it is a worthy knot to demonstrate on this Knotting Channel.
Having played around a little with this hitch, I do love the security that this hitch offers. As the working end is first of all tucked under the three turns, then again under the final turn, tension on the line makes this hitch grip exceptionally fast. I would say that perhaps this knot could be a little difficult to undo if heavily loaded. There is the option to slip this hitch, but I am not sure that it would help a great deal. If you have had experience of using this particular version of the Halyard Hitch, then please do leave a comment below.

This channel provides the clearest how-to when it comes to tying knots. The angle is the most helpful where the viewer doesn't get confused by left and right. I'm surprised that other channels don't seem to take this into consideration. Thank you for your effort.

It blows my mind to see how knowledgeable and resourceful you are, Johnny. And also stuns me the infinity of choices and combinations there are in this universe of knots, and you know it all!!!
Thanks a bunch for this one.

Excellent! I needed to learn this hitch for securing a halyard to the yard in a standing lug rig, and your video made it quite easy. Thank you!

I like the tying stand, it makes following the path easier. More Bear please. Another good resource book is The Encyclopedia Of Rawhide And Leather Braiding by Bruce Grant. If I may suggest a video, an eye splice in 4 strand hemp rope with a left hand twist. I have some and can't find a clear tutorial on it. Any help would be appreciated, thanks and well done, as always.

I'm seeing 3 different knots by this name on the internet. As an example, "Knotting Knots" has 2 knots by this name. Now we're having a shortage of knot names. Dang-it China!
