I used to go over to Yakota AFB, stand at end of runway about 50 yards perpendicularly away & wave at the backseater seconds before touchdown. At the Officers Club one evening I was chatting with a fellow who said, "there was a CRAZY woman waving to us at touchdown today". "That would be me"!!. He almost hit the floor laughing.

Back in 1970 I jumped up out of the manhole I was digging and stood up just as a Phantom passed very low directly overheard and knocked me back in the hole. No one told me this was a special low flying area 😠

Saw them back in 2017 on the nato awacs 35 years open day. They were from greece and i was surprised how big they were compared to more modern ones..

The US still occassionally uses them as targets for pilot training. They set up the jets with remote control systems and let pilots do live fire dogfights with them (except the phantoms don't have weapons)

First saw these on History Channel's Dogfights. Watching Phil Handley gun down the MiG-19 at Mach 1.2 after all of his Missiles failed him still ggives me goosebumps

In 1980, 101 Iranian Phantoms attacked Baghdad, and only one was downed.

The ones used in Iran and Turkey have been modernized with new radar, aiming systems etc. They are not so original anymore.

Very interested to see Cat 2 fire with a folded aircraft backing. That is forbidden today. Probably wrote into NATOPS because of a broken wing or two.
