Great timing Nigel. I was up 5am on the east coast of Vancouver Island this morning and watched your video before heading out. With all the forest fires in my area right now the sky is filled with smoke so the light is quite flat and dull. I got to practice my patience and composition skills this morning. Lines, light and texture were the words of the morning!

Hey Nigel, thanks for the shout out bud, I really appreciate it. Agree with virtually everything you said there, but most of all the last one, enjoy where you are. Stop, take a moment...or several...and just enjoy the environment you are in for what it is. Being able to connect with the environment will (with a little practice of the tips you provide on composition) help you to transcend the bridge between what your eye sees and what you are able to capture with your camera...and yes, get the Data ;)

Hazzah for the Kit Kat! Great tips as usual Nigel. I really appreciated the reminder to keep your camera out of your hands and to really soak up the atmosphere first (time-allowing). My struggle on trips is that our itinerary is always SO packed I literally don’t have time to sit and wait, which sucks of course. Lol. I usually end up having to try to plan down the half-hour where I’m gonna be for the light. But I’ve noticed a trend that the best images I’ve taken have USUALLY come from a place where I had time to truly ENJOY it and not just show up and quickly ‘steal’ an image from a location and move on to the next on the list.

Well done Nigel! Get the composition and wait for the light. I need to spend more time doing that instead of scrambling around just before the light goes off. As far as the Kit Kat bar goes, I now have that tv jingle running through my head. “Give me a break, give me a break, break me off a piece of that Kit Kat bar”. Thanks a lot.

All six tips are great! I need too work on slowing down when looking for a composition and number six is something I almost always do at some point. I put the camera down and use my just my eyes too take in my surroundings and enjoy the outdoors. Thanks for the tips.
