Complete Lawn Mower Tune Up

Performing a complete tune up on my John Deere JA62 lawn mower with a 6.5 HP Briggs and Stratton engine. I'll be changing the oil, replacing the air filter, sharpening the blade, replacing the spark plug, and greasing the rear wheels. See the links below for the parts and tools I used:

Thank you Mike! I own a JA62 as well. Great mower. I had to clean the carburetor today and especially the jet which was clogged. After 20 years it deserved a little bit of TLC.

Nicely demonstrated, EXCEPT: never start a sparkplug into it`s hole while (inside a socket) with a ratchet wrench !! Do this by HAND till you are (sure) threads are correctly meshing & won`t (strip) the cylinder head threads. MAJOR HEADACHE if those sparkplug threads get stripped !

These John Deere mowers are excellent but after 10/15/20 years, a complete carburetor disassembly and cleaning is on order. Order your carb kit from a John Deere dealer and give the carb a good cleaning in every fuel tunnels using a spray bottle carb cleaner to remove all the harden fuel varnish.

would have been nice if you included to check the self prop belt tension and how to replace if needed, but nice and to the point
