If the U.S. is against it, it's probably a good thing for Mexico.

People of a country having-a-say in their choice of federal-judges--instead of them being handpicked by a politician--is very "controversial"

You are just presenting the opposition point of view and not the real reasons why it needs to be reformed. You don’t tell your listeners that the opposition party was in power for more than 40 years and was filled with corruption and injustice; where the economics powers controlled every level of government. The new government it’s bringing transformation, transparency, justice and progress. The new government is for the people that were forgotten for 40 years.

This "news" story didn't exactly explain why it's controversial and really, anything.

Context, you know that most countries in the world base their government on the division of powers of Montesquieu, executive (president), legislative (senate), and judicial (courts) of which executive and legislative are elected by popular vote (democracy) but ther third NO.

The judicial branch doesn't use the vote of the people, judges are appointed by the other two powers and other institutions, only 2% of countries use the vote for the judicial branch but partially.

Mexico approved a constitucional reform and today is the first country in the world that will use the people's vote for the judicial branch completely.
What you see in the video is the attempt by the opponents to prevent the reform by taking the senate by force.
