Here are the food-bearing plants that are compatible with Christmas tree mulch:

Blueberries, Cranberries, Strawberries, Rhubarb, Potatoes, Raspberries, Blackberries.

I always bought live trees with root ball attached. I used a 50 gallon round tote as the stand, decorated for Christmas. Then I took it out and planted it. No waste.

Also, you can give the whole tree to chickens! They love playing in it, and eating the needles! They really love the taste!

My gardening teacher told me pine needles are quite acidic and not ideal to let them compost in your soil, so i'm conflicted now about the mulch tip

Years ago I was looking to buy land. Picked an area I liked and started my research. There were tons of Christmas tree farms in that area, and as I started talking to people I learned there's a much higher number of people there suffering illnesses and cancers, than in other nearby areas that don't have the tree farms. After more digging I learned I don't want to live anywhere near Christmas tree farms. I definitely don't buy them anymore, and if I did I certainly wouldn't put it on things I'm going to consume or in areas I care about the ecosystem. Which is everywhere.

The smell of those fresh cut conifers is so nice. I would be wearing glives to do similar or i would be sticky with sap😅

I’d never lay pine where I wanted to grow something.
What I do know is that not much grows under a pine tree because the needles secrete a chemical that kills things.

That transition was smooth! Great tips! Plus, It woult be cool to show off your apothecary drawers for seeds upclose. I love the idea!

Nice to see Eric doing shorts that aren't just clips from the long videos.

My mom always tied the tree to a stake in the backyard with her bird feeder so the following weeks the birds have places to hide and play. Eventually it turns brown and drops the needles, but then it's easier to cut up and compost.

Excellent ideas. Love that you showed how easy it is to do. Thanks.😊❤

I've read that softwood timber, such as that of Christmas trees, shouldn't be used for insect habitats, as the holes aren't smooth enough after drilling for bees etc to crawl into without damaging their wings :/

I was mulching my Christmas tree for years, and I buried more than a few of the trunks in my front garden bed as a vague hugelkultur effort. My sister loved the fresh pine Christmas tree smell, and I offset the cost of a live Christmas tree by making it useful in my garden.
