Chang's most lethal weapon was not his skill but rather his mental strength. He never give up on any shot and no matter how little chance there he always run for it and that was very impressive and entertaining.

To call Chang a "one slam wonder" would be quite the understatement, because he turned out to be one of the most consistent players of the 90´s, ending six consecutive seasons ranked well within the top 10 (peaking at no. two in 1996, only behind Sampras), and seven seasons in total. Although he won his first and only grand slam at Roland Garros in `89, he turned into a force to be reckoned with especially on hard court, and the man to beat at the Australian and US Open. (Back when the USA used to have *three* superstars in the top 10.) The way he seemingly came out of nowhere in `89, his consistency and fighting spirit makes him a very special player when I look back at 90´s tennis.

Chang was so fast, you had to hit two or three winners in order to win the point. Probably the very best of the one hit wonders. He gave Sampras fits. Pete was 12-8 against Michael, which is hardly the dominance you might expect. Chang played with a lot of heart, which is why the crowd loved him so much.

My favorite player to date (Courier was 2nd) Michael remind me the happiest time of my life (the 80's)....i was 9 years old when he won the French grand slam....so it was easy to relate to him cause he was still a child himself (he was 17 at the time)...he's so underrated and his archievment are so underappreciated 😤: that's sad 😩 he fought in a era were it was still really difficult to succeed for a defender (or defensive baseliner) outside of clay (Courier and Agassi were different....they were agressive attacking baseliner)! In that regard he did pretty well (Wimbledon apart)... put him in this Era, with today training and regime, with hard court or grass court that slow and he would win at least 5 or 6 grand slam and more than 10 masters 1000 like a Andy Murray (he still won 7 of them ...mostly on fast hard court 😱) ! Much respect to him!

Everyone loved Chang's heart and speed. He didn't have too many weapons but he made up for it with his defense and counter punching ability

Seriously, who chooses these points? Just like the one for Navratilova, Chang has a million better points at the US open than some of those that were shown here.

One of the exciting players to watch in the 80s & 90s. Others are Becker, Edberg, Sampras & McEnroe

So Chang might have been the first guy to slide around on hard courts

Could #6 be a perfect illustration of the old sports adage, "hard work beats talent, especially when talent doesn't work hard"?

Chang and other great tennis players played on a faster surface during their time. Can you just imagine Sampras or Agassi playing now at a much slower surface?

Before Nadal, there were Michael and Muster. They never ever give up. I have played with Michael Chang graphite since 1996. I have searched for finding old stock of new one. Of course I have recent rackets, but still my favorite is only one, Michael Chang Graphite OS. Next is POG OS and LB.

Chang gave a lot more like a rock star in 70s hard court must been tough for Chang yet played giants many.time over

Each ball has to be low and accurate to fend off Chang play that is not easy

Chang reached his potential as a player… very few
players can say… if he played in the woody era he would’ve dominated and been considered one of the best… he played in the power era where they didn’t slow down the courts yet… he did well.. Lavar would’ve been just like Chang in the power era… ppl say Lavar would dominate in any era but that’s simply not true.. it’s like giving baseball players aluminum bats… there would be no room for contact hitters

Typical usta video. Here’s some points from the 8 matches our intern took a glance at! But we call them career highlights! … and mostly from 1997 bc those tapes were at the top of the pile…. Off the top of my head I can think of better points at the uso than some of these! Including epic points against greats like Sampras and Edberg. well… better than the ridiculous stich career highlights! Lol
