You know how a lot advice on the internet is worthless? NOT this one! It actually worked perfectly, exactly as described. Thanks for the tip!

Just like the rest of the commenters..I totally didn’t think this would work!! After messing with mine for 20 minutes, it closed instantly without any struggle after this trick! THANK YOU!

Is this a usual Subaru issue? I have a 2015 Impreza got used as a second car. Hood won't stay latched. Never in my life with all my cars have I experienced this.

I know very little to do with cars. Been struggling with this issue for an hour or two. Assumed something was truly broken and scheduled an appointment with my dealer. Then I found this video and used all of the remaining rubbing alcohol I had, which was maybe 2 oz. Shut the hood and sure enough it worked. Unreal! Thank you for sharing this video!

Thanks. That did the trick to free my sticking latch mechanism. I cleaned as much gunk out as possible and sprayed the assembly with silicone lubricant. It's working like a charm again

Have been with this issue for a long time. Just found this morning and run to buy some rubbing alcohol; PROBLEM FIXED. Thanks a bunch for sharing this video; I'm sure the dealer would've charge me a lot of money for this simple fix.

Worked great I had black buildup on the spring and used hand sanitizer & a baby wipe to clean then used a screwdriver to push down on the locking hook. Will spray with alcohol when I get home. 2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek

Thanks a lot! I saved my time and money by eliminating the need to see my Mechanic 👨‍🔧 shop.

I just figured this out as well only I destroyed the cable, all the plastic rivets and grille before I realized that some brake clean removed frozen gunk.

To anyone else having this issue: PB blaster will work too. Might wanna clean out the gunk with a rag or something if you can.

To the uploader: Thanks 🙏

Worked for me on my stupid 2016 Impreza. Why? I would have thought some oil would work best, and cleaning off the lubricant would not help at all.

Wow. Thanks much. I thought maybe a sensor was preventing closure. Worked perfectly
