"One of those films Hollywood would ruin if it had the chance" The best review I've seen for a film.

As an Asian who moved to North America 15 years ago (Alberta, Saskatchewan), this trailer brings tears to my eyes. I fell in love with the culture, people, and way of life, and the locals embraced me and my family with open arms.

Much respect for having the guts to make something original! Tired of remakes from Hollywood

As a Tibetan myself we lost our country to china in 1951 and my family escaped to India in 1959 ..
whenever my late pala(father) sees any western movie he says it looks so much like Tibet the farms and the horse riding and the mountains, reminds him so much of Tibet back in his days. So western southern movies has always had a special place in my heart.
God bless u all.! Have a good one .

I saw Tokyo Cowboy at the Omaha Film Festival back in March 2024. I loved it and it was my favorite feature film that I watched there, for reference I watched 3 feature films during that film festival.

It had a lot of subtle and great humor, an interesting clash and blend of two different kinds of cultures with Japanese culture and Rural American culture, the main character saw some really nice character development, and the cinematography is excellent with many beautiful shots that were filmed on location in Montana. It's not often during feature films that the audience laughs as a whole in the theater, but there were at least a half dozen moments where the audience couldn't help but crack up and a lot of that was aided by the good acting and the good script direction I saw in the film.

One other thing is that we get to see three different languages spoken in the film with English, Japanese, and Spanish. So we really do get to see many kinds of characters with various backgrounds come together in this film. The ending to the film was really good and the cherry on top that did a nice job of sticking the landing.

I'm happy Japanese cinema and representation is having a resurgence in the west after the early 2000's J-horror craze from long ago.

1:19 I recognize that face anywhere. That is the Yakuza boss from "Kill Bill vol 1", the one whose head was taken by Oren Ishi.

Arata Iura is a darn great actor for sure. This is going to be a gem.

For those interested in his recent works, for starters do check out the Japanese drama Unnatural. He plays a mortician / autopsy doctor whom one day had to literally autopsy his beloved murdered fiance.

reminds me of stories my grandparents tell me about my uncle who apparently used to help take care of the farmland for Japanese immigrants deep in rural mexico. Really makes you think about culture. i also have a very distant korean relative that would have lived as a farmer in Mexico around the late 1800s, really cool to see a movie that would give a glimpse into what that experience must have been like for them.

I saw this at the Zions Indie Film Festival earlier this year, and I absolutely loved it. I hope it gets a huge nationwide release and that it does well. So good!

I was already about it after watching the trailer but “One of those films Hollywood would ruin if it had the chance” 100% sealed the deal for me. I can’t wait to see it.

The quote on Hollywood ruining the film if they had a chance brought me glee. I will watch this film.

We saw this film at the Prescott Film Festival. Tokyo Cowboy is outstanding! The script, acting performances, and cinematography are all first rate. This should be a general theater release, not just an Indy theater release: but it won't likely be, because there are no "movie stars" in the cast. Go see it on Aug 30.

People say anime, but Japanese movies are superb. Kurosawa, Ozu, Taakashi, Koreeda, Mizoguchi to name a few with impressive catalogues.
