I have the opposite problem with my teen. He is an overachiever, and spends eight to twelve hours a day on his studies taking copious notes in preparation for his AP exams. He's a senior patrol leader in boy scouts and plays in several bands at school. Since Covid, there are no band rehearsals, no scouting activities or boys to lead; but he's still spending hours and hours on his studies. I want him to take time off to go outside and get fresh air, toss the Frisbee, take a walk. How do I get him to slow down and listen? He gets so irritated with me for gently knocking on his door to ask if he wants a bite to eat or to take a break. I worry about him getting burnt out as he prepares for his senior year in high school. (He's always been an overachiever - straight A student.)

My kids school uses Google Classroom and in this situation we see how much work needs to be done for a teaching platform. It is way to much clicking and slides, docs or outside sites. It’s crazy time!

To heighten learning capacity, we have them:
Have a set time of study 30m-1 hour for older kids.
If they misbehave, they get timeout until they listen, or nap time.
If kids act up, they get sat on.

They are well rewarded with TOO MANY toys!

None of that works for teenagers. It's hard to motivate them to do anything they don't want to do on a normal day.

Threatening them with death is only somewhat effective and only for a short amount of time, I've found. The best thing that works is taking away their phone. My 17 year old daughter's phone has already been thrown out the door and stomped on. It was the most effective action to date. Just saying.
