Thanks for the explanation. "Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me." David knew that the Holy Spirit could depart from him like Saul, so he begged the Lord have mercy on him. Heartbreaking story but Psalm 51 remains as a great example of how we should repent and turn back to God. Godbless!

This is my favorite Psalm. Thank you for this video and the notes to add to my Bible. I would encourage you to listen to Voddie Baucham’s sermon on ‘Brokeness- Psalm 51’. It is one of the best sermons I’ve ever heard.

I agree with you about David taking responsibility and repenting of his grave sin. I do see that there were consequences to his actions. There was never peace in his household. His one son raping his half sister, son's seeking to overthow their father's kingship... etc

I keep wondering if David would have confessed if he hadn’t been found out. Also, not much is said about Bathsheba and her role in all of this. I understand the culture was very different but what would have happened if she said “No” to David? The Queen that was replaced by Esther stood up to her husband. I think Bathsheba carries some responsibility too. It seems her punishment was the loss of her child too.
