I have a bad habit of packing too much extra ammo, like way more than I know I'd ever need. Even if I'm going super lightweight with something like my tiny little pocket LCP, I'll bring like 6 times more 380 than the pistol weighs loaded, including all the extra mags.
IDK what I'm so worried about, but if it ever happens, I should be ready.

I blaze pine trees in places I camp at, or areas I ride. That way the next time I'm there I can harvest the large pine sap balls that form around the hole. I have pill bottles full of the sap I've harvested in my gear. I live in the mountains of South Central Montana, so the long burn time of the sap make it far easier to start winter fires

I use friction techniques to light fires. Nit because I enjoy showing off my survival skills, I just forget to bring matches or fire-starters.

Bring full actual not dehydrated meals for the heck of it, even if they weigh multiple extra pounds

Removing 1 item is a good idea! I like that! I sometimes try different things, last trip was only 1 shirt, just a sunhoodie. Helps me get a good idea of durability, how it does with weather from sun up to sun down ☀️

SOCKS are incredibly important. Whenever our family was camping, tinder was kids job number one. I still notice it on hikes. We take wooden/bamboo untensils BUT I understand enjoying the process. Medieval reenactment, I get to do BOTH. All my gear I've lovingly made or traded for. Pack light; make good choices. While you are there, learn to do MORE things by yourself. Weird stuff? I can weild a flint and steel like a pro. Gotta pratice, ya know. I won't start it with a lighter on PRINIPLE.

Where I live, there are roots on the ground everywhere, and I am always looking at the ground to watch my step ( and when I am biking ), but it started my habit of doing my sports for school (Cross Country, Indoor Track, and Track and Field) I am constantly looking downward. It's not a problem when I am hiking just a habit outside of it.

Oh, out for hiking; we DO collect knots of wood/pine resin. Firestarter; glue, incense. We always stop.
