When they counted people, they counted males. Males came with wives and children. 4000 men. They found females and children in surrounding graves. Levites, High Priests, and then tribe of Benjamin and Juda. I don’t know where he came up with the last paragraph of that quote. The priests were only required to be celibate during the initiation period. After that, it is more than required. Celibacy has always been a choice of dedication. Recall this discussion in the bible with Peter, (who was married with children). It is an expression of love towards the Father not a disdain towards woman. Males were responsible to provide and protect for woman and children and they honoured this responsibility as real men would. That takes time, is the only point, time away from glorifying and worshipping the Father. The Father is Holy, to be close to him you have to remain pure and clean. Domestic life is contaminating.
