Most important moments of the NASA news conference that took place on Thursday, November 5. MAVEN probe lead researcher Bruce Jakosky said that NASA scientists have cracked the mystery of Mars' missing atmosphere, saying the sun did it.

"Up until about 3.7 billion years ago, water seemed to be very abundant and active. So the stripping of the solar wind, the stripping by the solar wind, of the atmosphere, would have occurred in that same timeframe. That's when the extreme ultraviolet photons from the sun, when the solar wind were most intense. So we think that the loss of the atmosphere occurred over a few hundred million years from about 4.2 to 3.7 million years ago," Jakosky, said.
