Why is BJP not Fighting the Elections in Kashmir? | India Elections 2024 | Vantage with Palki Sharma

In India - it's phase four of the general election with 96 constituencies going to polls in 10 states and union territories. In this phase, some crucial seats went to the polls especially in southern and eastern India. But a crucial seat was the one in Srinagar. This is the first time that the people of Srinagar are voting since 2019 that is since the abrogation of article 370. Also, for the first time since 1996, the BJP hasn't fielded any candidate in Kashmir. Jammu and Kashmir has a total of 5 Lok Sabha seats. The BJP has fielded candidates in the two seats in Jammu but none in Kashmir. Why is that? Palki Sharma tells you.

A good move by BJP, because most of the M people will vote for their community. Many are openly appreciating Modiji, but not necessarily turn into votes. So to avoid taking risks and which can change the narrative on kashmir, this decision is taken. M people requires more time to become broad and open minded. Lets see what happens in nExt 5 years. J and k is a politically, socially and demographically partioned state. Jammu is primarily a Hindu dominant region which votes for the BJP. Kashmir is a region with Muslims heavily dominating demography has alternated between Congress, PDP and NC. Realising the divide party has decided not to contest because of the inevitability of the result. But it has caused discontent among the local cadres who felt contesting would be beneficial and would have led to the organic growth of the organisation. The other reason would be that the party's defeat would have been painted as the rejection of the art 370 move on 5th aug 2019 by the critics and political rivals. This would have been a defeat of the narrative of the ideological project of the BJP which the party wants to avoid at all costs.

By not contesting elections in kashmir region, bjp is ensuring that opposition parties would not boycott elections and since there is open ground and not much left to oppose, they WOULD contest whatever may be the result, but in global scenerio, we could say that after abrogation of Art.370, kashmir is happy and this happiness is reflecting in pol percentage and anyways bjp had nothing to lose from kashmir bcz whatever development they may do, they aren't getting Muslim votes because of their religion.
