I was delivering a container to a well known building company. The builders were saying that one of their bricklayers had been sacked because a prospective buyer had asked him if the houses were ok. He told them the build quality was crap and he wouldn’t buy one.

I'll stick to owning my 1940s ex-council house thanks. Huge rooms, built well and with more character than most new builds. Plus cheap as chips 🤷‍♂️

Well done mate! About time someone held these cowboys to account! Absolutely disgusting how these properties can be issued CML's let alone handed over to customers! NHBC need to be held accountable over this disgrace! 🤬

I’m a retired brickie and the guy I worked for employed only quality tradesmen and when I was looking after a build when the inspector came onto site saw who the contractor was he said thank goodness I know everything will be done properly, that’s how it should be proper tradesmen and quality building materials, as I was taught it’s far easier doing it correctly first time and don’t be afraid to point out someone’s error the guy might have been distracted and forgot to finish it off properly because true tradesmen don’t want to get a bad name

That is absolutely disgracefully.
PLEASE name and shame the companies that did these utter disastrous builds.

My partner and I bought our first house together around 20 years ago. It cost almost half a million pounds. The snagging list turned in to a bound volume of faults found by the surveyor I employed. We had the window manufacturers inspect the installation and every window was condemned and had to be replaced. This was just the start, eventually we were given another house to live in while ours was being repaired. This took 6 months. THE NHBC CLAIMED THEY HAD INSPECTED THE PROPERTY. In fact at the time of this so called inspection we had been living in the property for 3 months and I can't recall being paid a visit by this organisation. What we must remember is that the NHBC is funded by the house building industry. Talk about a fox looking after the chickens.

I live next to a field that was made into a Barretts estate. I had the displeasure of watching them build these houses (they were right at the end of my garden so I had no other option as they were so loud) and having seen the way they bodged things up I would NEVER touch a new build, and definitely not a Barratts, with a bargepole. I could hear the labourers shouting to each other about how crap it was!!!

I would like to see a follow up video on how some of these problems are fixed, and what repercussions there are for the building company.

I can relate to this. I was sold a south facing house but when the sun was going down I noticed it was in the wrong place the plans and the build were 90 degrees out! I had a snagging report carried out and there were 360 snags! It took me over 2 years to get MOST things put right but after so long they just wear you down and I gave in. I did insist on the worst ones getting sorted before I did finally give up though. I would never buy a new build again

Builder did some work on my house and said if you ever move again get an old property, as they are being thrown up by jokers now a days and tolerances are at the minimum required (apparently you can't store stuff in you loft on new builds as they can't take the weight! ) as this lad says SHOCKING - keep up the good work 👏

Unfortunately this isn't unusual. The standard of building in the UK has deteriorated since the privatisation of building inspectors and the massive increase in the use of cheap foreign labour.

As a kid I was always fascinated with building sites. They weren't like today's where everything is closed off at the end of the day, you could go in all the properties, up ladders onto scaffolding, etc. I remember seeing builders' rubbish from lunchtime, so like crisp packets and drinks bottles, etc. shoved in fireplace cavities ready to be rendered over. Also the crap builders and tradesmen get rid of under floorboards is disgraceful. I've also heard stories more recently on a local development where houses can go for half a mil, where the lawns had no drainage because they were essentially just builders' rubble dumps that had been levelled and turfed over.

Could you list where these homes are and who built them so we know to avoid or to carry out checks on viewing. If a building firm is a persistent offender we need to be aware.

My grandfather was a builder after being a solider in WW2 and he wouldn't leave a house in that state. He was a man of his craft

I’ve bought two new builds in my life one 26 years ago and the other 21 years ago - both had some minor issues nothing serious, all things that were quickly rectified. I don’t think I’d go anywhere near a new build today, not saying they’re all bad, but standards have certainly gone down the toilet compared with what the once were.

In my new build, they had built the box room 6” too short which stopped us from being able to put a bed in it. They had to come back, rip up the carpets, demolish and move the whole wall back and re carpet. Also every time I walked over the carpet I could feel plaster droppings. They also didn’t install the fire break in the roof and had to come back to sort it out. We sold it after 18 months, absolutely rubbish. It was the first new build we’d ever had and would never have another. The craftsmanship on older homes is amazing.
