This course delves deep into the intriguing question of whether Jesus of Nazareth was connected to, influenced by, or familiar with the Jewish sect responsible for writing the Dead Sea Scrolls. By centering our investigation around this central issue, we will embark on an exploration of a wide range of related topics, shedding light on the historical and theological context of the time. Through in-depth analysis, discussion, and examination of primary sources, we will seek to uncover the potential connections and influences that shaped the religious landscape of the ancient Judean world.

This course comes down to a single issue: Was Jesus connected to, familiar with, or in any ways influenced by, the Jewish sect who wrote the Dead Sea Scrolls? And around this central focus we will explore a whole variety of related topics, such as:

What are the Dead Sea scrolls?
How were the Dead Sea Scrolls discovered, dated, and interpreted early on?
Were the Essenes the group responsible for writing the Dead Sea Scrolls?
Who were the Essenes and what were their beliefs?
Was John the Baptist likely connected to the DSS (Dead Sea Scrolls) group?
Are there close similarities between the Jesus movement and the DSS group—how many and how significant?
What about sharp differences between the Jesus movement and the DSS group?
If the movement lasted until the Jewish Roman War in 66-73CE, was it possible that the Jesus movement and the DSS group had knowledge of each other?
How different are the Pharisees and the Sadducees from the DSS group and the Jesus movement?
And so much more...

In this course, our primary focus is on a direct engagement with the Dead Sea Scroll texts. Our emphasis is not on delving into theories about the group but rather on a meticulous examination of the content within the Scrolls themselves. By the conclusion of this course, you will have gained a profound understanding of the fundamental aspects necessary to embark on more in-depth explorations in the realm of biblical studies.

Dearest Patreons, from the less financially fortunate among the human species, thank you so much for helping to fund these scholars. These different types of JUDEO-CHRISTIAN RELIGIOUS videos helps us less educated people more than you can ever understand about our daily struggles with our searches about spirituality. You're collectively helping to pay for our educations. We are diligently studying the wisdom from the professional Religious scholars.

I'm extremely skeptical regarding anything "discovered" in the 1940's & 50's

I would totally sign up, if it was something I could afford. Perhaps some time in the future. I will have to just enjoy the MythVision and Dr. James Tabor videos on YouTube.

I would absolutely sign up if I had enough money in my budget for it. Right now I have no spare money in my budget 😭 because all my money and all my partner's money goes to bills and necessities!

PS Derek you're well on your road in getting into the best shape of your life and you're far enough along to be a distraction! 🤩

As I've said before it's speaking about the heir of Melchizedek from the time of King David's death, the Grandfather of Adoniyah the son of King David.

Sounds like an interesting course, I'd be curious to know if it sheds any light on whether there actually was an historical Jesus or whether he's totally a myth that was created and attached to the apocalyptic movement known as Jewish Christians. We do know his mythical dad Yahweh can be traced back to being one of over 200 Canaanite gods.

The Dead Sea Scrolls also have the book of Isaiah. The book of Isaiah predicts a future Messiah, a descendent of David. Jesus is the only Person who has fulfilled and fits all the descriptions of the Messianic prophesies in Isaiah.

Loved your old interviews without the annoying extraneous soundtracks and junk. Trying to be the history channel?

Is it me, or does this channel rarely touches Judaism and completely ignores Islam? 🤔

What about the fakes in the Dead Sea Scrolls?

If the scholarship depends upon the fallacy that the Gospel of Mark is a derivative of the theology of Paul, it is presenting error that is a force multiplier for the January 6 insurgency.

The Jesus before Jesus was a Prophet, who was a Hellenistic Jew who wrote the Book of Sirach with the last two chapter being written by his son “Sirach”. This book was in the Dead Sea Scroll. This Book was definitely used by Jews at the time Christ lived on Earth. You will recognize the influence of this book in Christ’s teachings. It is in the Catholic, Orthodox, Coptic, and Ethiopian, and other’s Bible.
