How To Easily Format WD Passport for Mac in 5 Minutes

Formatting a hard drive can be done using the following steps:

Backup your data: Formatting a hard drive will erase all the data stored on it. Therefore, it's important to backup any important data you have on the drive before proceeding.

Go to Disk Utility

Choose APFS (Apple File System) either Case-Sensitive or Case-sensitive, encrypted.

Apply the partition.

Wait for the process to complete: Formatting a hard drive may take some time depending on the size of the drive. Once the process is complete, you should see a blank hard drive that Mac will be able to "write" to.

Note: It's important to be careful while formatting your hard drive, as choosing the wrong partition or file system can cause irreversible damage to your data.

3:20 : If you receive an error, a program is running your hard drive. Close it or restart the Mac then try to partition again.
4:00 : Test the new file system to see if it works.

I am a novice. Can I retain some data (namely, iCalendar and Contacts, on my Mac? Can I prevent it from being ported to the Passport? Can I go back to the Passport, and cherry pick particular items to be returned to my Mac? Will this affect the availability of data on my other Apple products, or will the iCalendar and Contacts remain on those other products? Much obliged, sir!

I had this damn WD passport for 1-2 years. It’s 4 am and I decided to try to fix my life right now. I logged into all my broker accounts to cry over my portfolios that I’ve ignored for 1-2 years, opened a browser to inquire about getting a doctoral degree. I also watched 4 videos on this passport hard drive and by the grace of GOD I found your video after so many failed tutorials over many years. THANK YOU VERY MUCH! My mac doesn't even have an external option when clicking on disk utility. I think it has to do with it being from my job and security issues. Got any vids on formatting it for a pc?

I have "My Passport Ultra for Mac, 5TB). I know I can backup my Mac computer to "My Passport" using Time Machine, but do you recommend Partitioning "My Passport" for the backup? Is it possible to save other files (E.g. word documents, audio books, excel files) to "My Passport" along with the backup?
