Friendly reminder to everyone: play CrossCode.

It is easily on-par with all of the various “indie greats” of the last decade, yet almost nobody talks about it. And that just ain’t right.

As for the rest of the list, I’ve played a good chunk of them, and I fully agree with Hollow Knight as #1. Team Cherry is one of two companies that have set the standard of gaming for me, these last couple of years. There’s other types of games I enjoy, but the titles I’ll be looking for the most in the 2020s are those that can match that level of player-driven exploration and accomplishment. I want more games with worlds as wonderous and memorable as Hallownest; games that make boss fights a core part of the experience, rather than a rare, sometimes forgettable occurrence.

What I love about your videos is they remind me of how much variety there is in Indie gaming. There are games on your list I've spent countless hours on, and there are games I'd never consider playing.

I was scared when Hollow Knight wasn't in the list and then it came in at #1

I wish Hyper Light Drifter was higher on the list. I’m not complaining though, since all of my favorite games made it up which makes me happy. :) (Those games being Terraria, Hollow Knight, Subnautica, and HLD of course)
HLD for me was amazing. I really got into the game, and loved its hidden lore. I’m a _sucker_ for lore. Some of the visual storytelling actually shocked me, such as the origins of the protagonist’s race. I got really attached to them, as I helped them through their journey to fight the disease they have... And knowing that the developer has a deadly disease that inspired the game in the first place, just gave me so much more respect for it. And have I mentioned the music and art? It’s legitimately breathtaking!
Honestly, this game made me cry, all from its visual story. And, I’m not even finished with it! I love this game so much that I can’t bear to complete it, even though I’m in the endgame at this point. I just want to find the hidden secrets to get the satisfaction...

I know that I’m gonna cry again when I see the ending for myself.

The lack of love for Pyre is criminal.. Such a great game. I'm glad they are getting proper recognition now with Hades

honestly this decade has had just SOOO many amazing indie titles, reducing it to only 25 seems impossible ; regardless this is an excellent list especially with the included nods to others in similar genres ; great list overall, could have easily made it a 100 list tho =]

I die inside a little bit knowing that a lot of people haven't played Lisa The Painful, such a hidden diamond in the indie scene

We could discuss for hours what makes Hollow Knight #1:
- The entire game is art gallery of masterpieces, the art alone makes it #1
- No, it's the music and how it blends perfectly with the art
- No, it's the sharp controls and fantastic platforming
- No, it's the exploration, being lost and afraid, finding maps, gaining confidence and conquering the area while finding helpful items
- No, it's the charms and all the ways you can customize your Knight to defeat that boss that is blocking your path

Great list, I've played most of these. Just finished Crosscode recently, it's definitely one of my new favorites as well. I was going to wait for the console version like everybody else but I caved in.

One game I still want to give a shot is Undertale. I'm normally not a big fan of turn based combat but the concept of Undertale looks so unique and interesting to me.
