Outside Newgrange at dawn on the 2019 winter solstice - the heavy fog over the Boyne valley that day meant the sun only put in a weak and watery appearance through the mist too late after dawn for the chamber to be illuminated but there was still plenty of atmosphere. The last few seconds at at Tara that afternoon

Newgrange is part of the Brú na Bóinne world heritage site dating from around 3300 BC. At dawn on the winter solstice the suns shines through a roof box above the entrance to illuminate the chamber within the enormous cairn. On that day hundreds gather outside and a select few are permitted to enter to hopefully witness the sunrise.
