I've lived in Okinawa Japan, San Diego, New Orleans, and now I'm back home in Oregon in a small unincorporated community (ie: no infrastructure like Mayor, etc. We do have a post office, library, and 2 stop signs we are quite proud of though 😉) and we have a population of 87 year round. (Many wealthy Californians come to enjoy our summers and bump our population to around 130) we have 3 Lodges with restaurants, 2 stores, 1 bar, private emergency airstrip, and community center. We are dependent on summer tourism. We are located on the Wild and Scenic Rogue River. We are a 1 hour drive from a small town with 2 grocery stores and 3 hours from bigger towns with stores like Fred Meyers and Walmart. Things at the stores and bar here are expensive but that is due to the cost of getting items to my community since we are so remote. The night life consists of star gazing, skunk wrangling, night swimming, or just observing the wildlife. Internet is limited and expensive, phone service is more limited and only At&t customers have any but I love it. There is no uber, food delivery, and we shut down the lodges in winter so we must cook for ourselves and buy groceries accordingly for up to 3 weeks at a time since in the winter the road out of town can be blocked with landslides and downed trees. We help each other out, if someone is going to the bigger towns with a large store they ask around if anyone needs something and asking your neighbors for a cup of sugar is a really thing here. When social distancing started we were confused because we already did that, we just called it " winter ". Extremely small town life isnt for anyone. I will admit I miss New Orleans when it is 9PM and everything is closed when I go to the town 1 hour away, but overall, I am the happiest I have ever been in my small unincorporated community where we help each other out and every morning I see views that many people pay to come and experience. Love your content, keep it up 😊

I was born and raised in Kansas. The population of the town I grew up in was around 300 during the 80's. My hometown had a bank, restaurant, post office, gas station, pool hall, three churches, grain elevator, hair salon, grade school, high school, a few small businesses, and a park. There wasn't a middle school. I had to be bussed 8 miles to the next town over to attend it.

I spent some time living in Denver, CO., and visited many major cities in other states throughout the U.S. in my younger years. At the age of 26, I realised city life was not my cup of tea. Your liberties and and freedom felt like they were restricted or taken away from you in those larger cities. It was too congested, "in your face", and loud. There was never any rest.

Granted, you may not have a lot of fancy stores and restaurants when living in a small town. But I'll take my corner lot, 4 bedroom, 2 bath, 2 door attached garage, 1 single detached garage, four - 4×12 garden beds, in a fenced-in backyard over a 1-bedroom apartment for the same price any day of the week.

I never have to pay for parking nor worry about spending 30 minutes looking for it either. My vehicles usually stay in the driveway and unlocked. Married w/ teenage kids and combined salary of 120k. I will never trade it for instant gratification or social interaction.

My packages from Amazon get here just as fast.

Pro 2nd Amendment? Well, no problem because it's free open-carry from here to TX.

Great points! I live in Austin. It's a BiG city to me, since I lived in towns of 2, 000 to 15, 000 before Austin.
I've been here 12 years and I'm now 41. I want to move to a smaller city now. I like little towns, but I'm an Atheist, mostly vegan, and I want to date. I don't think there will be a ton of dates in small Texas towns for me! The houses are much more affordable in smaller cities too.

Get both (small town within half day) of your city place. The airport thing isn’t a big deal unless your a business traveller. But most people just need an international airport 1 time a year if that.

I live in a large city, and the cost of living has gone up, a 1 bedroom 1 1/2 bath with around 800sqft space in a decent area would run about 750$ monthly rent, now it’s up to 1, 000$ for the exact same apartments and it’s only climbing, and the wages are definitely going up for high demand jobs so there’s opportunities showing itself,

Living in a big city is more fun than a small city. Small cities are just quite boring for most of the time, when you’re in a big city, you get to look at nice skyline, more opportunities, higher salaries.

Big cities tend to host more events because they have much more space than small cities.
