Why not just use Kafka Streams instead of using low level constructs if Kafka streams is said to be much easier to use? This example also is pretty vanilla and requires lots of boilerplate, Spring Boot Kafka has some pretty good support for this stuff instead of using the vanilla libs yourself and having to deal with the complicated low level apis/lifecycle/configuration.
