Front Headlock (Standing Guillotine Choke) Escape | Self Defense

Here Shane teaches 2 different escapes to the "front headlock" or the standing guillotine choke. This is a BJJ submission, but even untrained people know how to do it. Therefor, YOU have to know how to get out of this choke!

Like every other fight technique that I teach, you have the practice this one. Obviously, with a friend or training partner, you're not going 100%, but you should get comfortable with each step and movement. Most of the time, you end up in this position after going for a careless double-leg takedown or trying to "tackle" someone. Gotta protect that neck!

The last "kumari throw" technique will not always work if your opponent is a lot taller than you or if they get the choke in tight before you can stabilize and loosen their arm. Even so that is a better technique than coming around the other side where your opponent could break their hold and put you in a sprawl or clinch position. If the kumari hold does not flip the opponent or put enough pressure on the joint to dislocate you can always sweep the leg or heel stomp their ankle.

Love this video, I've been searching for videos on how to choke out a girl. Thanks !

I think a sweeping headbutt from her position at 1:32 would be an effective means to disorientate the opponent for either escape or full mount. Followed by a few punches and a kick to help her get up.

hmmm, I like the idea of the Ude Garami in the escape, I will have to try this out at class and see how this works out.

I like the first one better. As even without trying the second one I can see a problem. If they link there hands together braking that hold could be very difficult.

If I was choked like that, my first reflex would be messing up his ribcage with left hooks (also I'm left handed, so easier for me) or even stabbing him if the fight started with knife
