As AI is transforming our world, how will we humans adapt? 🤖 With jobs being replaced with AI and new challenges emerging from that, could Universal Basic Income (UBI) be the key to bridging the gaps and providing stability? From boosting education and reducing poverty to rethinking what "work" means, UBI could revolutionize our society. But can we afford it? And what does it mean for the future of work and our purpose in life? Explore the possibilities and the debate on how we can live better in a world dominated by AI. #ai #ubi #futureofwork

I've been thinking about this exact solution since AI exploded. I think most jobs will be automated by bots and people will no longer have to work and we'll live on UBI

I don't know if UBI would work while remaining in a capitalist system. I am anti capitalist, but I not make the claim that it would not work as a critique of capitalism. I just mean that if you have a system that promotes "rent seeking" behavior and you ensure that everyone has at minimum X dollars, you will see the cost for basic necessities rise to meet that new income level and put us right back where we started.
I think that, if you wanted to keep capitalism and also not let the automation of the workforce destroy everyones lives, there needs to be a public option for basic needs. Public housing, universal healthcare, government cheese ect.
You would likely want to keep the building and maintenance of these works publicly controlled and operated to avoid perverse incentives for private companies intentionally sabotaging the public options.
There are many holes in that option as well of course, government corruption, embezzlement, bureaucratic nightmares, but I do think that it does leave the least number of people completely hosed while still allowing for social mobility.

I would rather do away with massive corporations and have the means of production be owned by the workers so that AI is a tool and partner rather than competition, but my compromise is already pie in the sky in the current American political climate.

The implementation is key, you don't want to end up like Argentina, where people were encouraged not to quit working and vote the same corrupt government in order to keep their UBI

I worry that a fraction of the populations would still be vulnerable because of debts, exploitation, or bad habits wiping out that basic income. I think a more secure version of a UBI would be each month enough food stamps or equivalent program to cover food/essentials costs, plus housing/utility credit for the remaining value of the UBI. Anything left over each month would rollover to the next month or to tax refund or something. Anyone regardless of wealth would be able to use the full amount of the UBI but the value of the UBI would be immune to being spent on debt or gambling or garnishing or anything else that would force a vulnerable person to have that money be extracted from exploitative practices by credit companies and so on. There should also be government housing made available to all for an amount equal to what the UBI would allocate to housing which would nearly solve homelessness. Big ask I know. There are probably problems with my idea and I am open to being wrong. Its just the idea I had to better ensure that food and housing was guaranteed via the UBI. Let me know what yall think!

How do we afford it? And what is to stop companies from jacking the prices up which would make ubi pointless?
I really want ubi, but these 2 things have to be figured out for it to actually work.

Btw just having a roof, food, and shelter isn't enough. There is psychological needs. So there would need to be a little on top of that. How much, idk. But it isn't as clear cut as I would like.
Personally I would like for it to cover all your needs like in star trek.

Introducing AI to market and industry will be much like industrial revolution, some old jobs will be replace and newer jobs will emerge

So much talk about AI replacing people as it struggles with the most basic tasks without lying about the answer😂

What about inflation? Wouldn't giving everyone $1000/mo trigger some hot inflation readings? Ultimately the extra money will probably trickle back into the economy and drive up demand.

And then prices will go up and $1000/mo becomes near meaningless.

Everybody is underestimating this and there's already tons of resistance inside most offices. It's going to start when users and decision makers are able to help themselves without human tech support, analyst and developers. The next event is when companies notice and compare the impact, savings, productivity and competitive edge of adopting AI vs not. But it's when they let AI assess performance, productivity and organization that the real blood bath will start. My biggest concern is that Governments won't be ready to respond to the revolution and sabotage that will ensue. There are so many policies in place to artificially limit the measurement of performance and protect the worker that AIs won't even be allowed to report honest performance numbers in many segments. Let's face it there are so many BS jobs out there where people just mix the crap every day and serve it like fresh cookies. Humans have a short attention span, are generally non-confrontational and most Managers just take the high road. Few managers are honestly measuring, comparing and holding staff accountable putting into place any real value system. Most offices are fat, old and slow to deliver nothing but confusion, complexity and excuses. AI watching the store is going to ROCK the Human Resource sooner than we all expect.
