6 Hours in Hell - Roy Benavidez

1968 in Vietnam and Master Sergeant Roy Benevidez undertook an incredibly brave rescue of a special forces team that had been surrounded by an NVA Infantry Battalion of over 1000 men. Armed with just a knife and his medical bag, Benevidez threw himself into the thick of the action and conducted a rescue attempt that resulted in him saving the lives of at least 8 men.

When presented the Medal of Honor by President Reagan, the President turned to the press and said, "If the story of his heroism were a movie script, you would not believe it".

And it’s not like he just spit in the doctors face, they were zipping him up in a body bag because they thought he was dead and all he managed to muster was to spit on the docs face and let him know he was still alive

He looked at Death in his face, and said, “No. F*** off.”

So something we should have made clear and we're getting lots of comments on, he received those award for his actions and in 1981 Benavidez's Distinguished Service Cross was upgraded to the Medal of Honor.

Great video. The animation is cool. .... My dad received the Medal of Honor for his actions that day, but you already addressed this in a comment. Thanks for honoring him with this video. -Yvette Benavidez Garcia, Roy's daughter.

My father was a Major in the 5th SF with Staff Sargeant Benavidez in that battle. My father was injured in the face and had to be shipped to Hawaii and they didn't see each other until 1990. I dad invited me to a 3 hour diner at a fancy steak resturuant and got to enjoy them going over their time together in Vietnam. A very humble person.

Mad respect to Roy. despite the fact that there's a shit ton of enemy soldiers, he still went on a 1-man rampage. machine gun one one hand, wounded comrade on the other. He never thought of retreating, just attacking.

Kudos to the very sneaky detail of the 'Predator', jumping off that trunk!

Still amazed Sabaton hasn’t written a song about The Mean Mexican yet. Such a badass man needs a badass metal song like what Audie Murphy got.

The man was amazing. He was in the Korean war prior to this and even has a GI Joe figure to commemorate him. He’s a real COD character

This man was amazing. I was so wrapped up in the story to the end. It was really a gripping tale. Thank God he didn't die

My mothers dad, had a son in the Vietnam war, He was a 19yo door gunner, on one of those Hueys, when they first went back to get the unit he was shot and killed, when they returned back to base and when Benavidez hopped on he grabbed the 19yo thinking he was alive due to his tired face, fell into his arms and died.
