I'm from the Emirates, and ghee is traditional to us (naturally, we've got a large Indian community and we were governed under the British Raj until 1971). What's usually done to liquify it is to pour hot water on it to warm it up. Naturally you have to be careful if it's in a glass jar or bottle because rapid changes in temperature could break the glass. Make sure the water isn't too hot, just hot enough to soften its consistency but not to totally melt it all the way.

Well, Ghee is sometimes used for cooking steaks, it has higher smoke point than some vegetable oils.
