Watch and learn how to clean your Vicks Warm Steam Vaporizer - V150.

__________
Weekly cleaning is recommended to keep your Vicks Warm Steam Vaporizer running efficiently.
Before cleaning, unplug and wait 20 to 30 minutes for the unit to cool before cleaning.
All maintenance should be done in the kitchen or bathroom on a flat, water-resistant surface near a faucet.

Remove any accessories from the device and empty any unused water from the water container.
Then rinse the container thoroughly with water, drain and wipe with a dry, clean cloth.

With the steam unit safely unplugged, soak steam unit in 4 inches of white vinegar for 10 minutes.
Then, over the sink, with fingers covering the bottom hole of the steam unit, add tap water into the steam outlet.
Cover the steam outlet with the other hand, shake the steam unit back and forth, then empty the water through steam outlet.
Repeat several times until black particles are no longer emitted and vinegar odour is gone.

If using Vicks VapoSteam, make sure any residue is cleaned off the steam unit using a mild detergent.

Next, rinse the area under the steam guard to remove any dust or dirt particles.
With a long toothpick, you can gently poke through the steam outlet and drain hole if they’ve become obstructed.

Use gloves while performing the disinfecting process.
To disinfect the water container, fill it with water to the fill line and add 1 teaspoon of bleach.
Carefully swish the solution to wet all inner surfaces of the tank. Let stand for 20 minutes.
Then empty the water container and rinse with tap water until the bleach smell is gone.

Dry with a clean cloth.

Your vaporizer is now clean.

If you spend $10 - $12 on a set of Torx screwdrivers to open it, not only will you able to clean it much more throughly, but it is a lot cheaper than all the vinegar you’ll go through without ever opening it. A size 10 Torx screwdriver worked for me. The top blue piece was simple to remove. (The unit MUST be unplugged and you must not plug it back in until fully re-assembled.) Then I lifted out the heating elements. The heating elements are only 3 inches wide or so, meaning you no longer need container full of vinegar as shown here. I cut off the top off a soda can, filled it with 4 inches vinegar, and soaked the heating element for 10 minutes. After that, the mineral buildup scrapes right off with the back of a butter knife. My vaporizer is now making steam without needing any added salt.

Growing up my Mom always had the vaporizer going in our bedrooms as we slept. I do not remember the brand name but I thought it might have been Vicks. The only cleaning I remember her doing it's just washing & rinsing the reservoir fart with warm soapy water . I never saw her using vinegar or any other kind of cleaner on the motor. Also they used to produce some major steam, oh my! I used to love the smell of the Vicks salve she used in the machine! My sisters and I will go to bed with stuffy chest and/or heads, then wake up in the morning nearly cured! My mom had the same vaporizers for years. Now I know they don't make things like they used to but I was shocked and so disappointed at what little Steam and scent that come out of my brand new, fresh out of the box vaporizer. And after only a week it quits steaming all together. yeah I cleaned it and it then quit working totally. And had to buy another one, only to go through the same darn thing. I don't think I will ever buy another Vicks product!!

Look, guys, I was rinsing and rinsing, and it still smells like vinegar. I put some water on the stove, put the flame on really low, and I had steam within a few minutes . I put a drain pan with holes over the top, so it lets steam through without going dry really fast. I just put the vapor pad on top of the pan with the holes, and now I have the whole effect of the Vicks vaporizer.

I saw another video that instructed to remove the screws and then clean and when I did this, I found pieces of black residue as big a a cigar, chipped this off the surface of the two poles and will let this dry for a few days before I reassemble - hope it works but vinegar to the exterior may not work as I tried this first - was very worried about the black water as well as the chips at the bottom of the tank as this unit is a few years old

That's a lot of vinegar to go through on a weekly basis to clean this thing

Ahh yes vinegar and bleach what a completely safe combination!

That seems like a lot of undiluted vinegar. Like, a whole bottle every time!? I wonder if diluted will do the trick the same as in my kettle.

My son has really bad asthma and I recently got this vaporizer to help relieve his symptoms, after rinsing until the vinegar smell is gone and then rinsing some more, will there still be small vinegar particles mixed in with the water? And if so is it safe for sensitive lungs?

I have two new ones (one purchased a year ago and one within the last 3 months) that either barely steam or over steam or don’t steam at all(sets off the smoke alarm system) and they gurgle so freaking One squirts out water! I’m a little heated. They both have been cleaned and have the black particles after 1 use of being cleaned.

How do I get the hardened crystals out of the cup section that you would put them after I unplug it and it becomes hardened?

Hi Vicks, I accidentally let mine out with half a tank of water for a couple months when I was out of the house during a trip in the summer. Since it's very full of insects where I live, when I returned, I found that an ecosystem of small bugs
And other critters had found their way into my vaporizer. I gagged too because of the smell and the slimy surface of the water. Is there any way I could disinfect the machine? I have followed the instructions yet the smell hasn't gone away and I'm not sure the blue part of the machine can be properly cleaned without submerging in the bleach solution?

After two days of use, mine stopped steaming. Took it apart and cleaned an abundance of mineral deposits off the elements (we have hard water). One thing that concerns me though is how hot the water in the tank gets... almost too hot to the touch. Is this normal? Sent msg to support.

How the hell do you drain all the water out there is always like 50ML of water left floating around. For the life of me can never get it out!!!!

Wouldn't water get through to the electrical system cleaning it this way? Or are they well encased in a protective shield.

Hi Vicks, my humidifier ran out of water so I put more water into it and the element doesn't seem to be as strong as it was before. Could it have cooled down too quickly?

So what do we do if it starts shooting water out through the vents when plugged in?

Can’t dish soap like Dawn be used for the daily cleaning of the tank? Also, I bought two of these but I end up having to use salt every time and I’ve had to unplug it to add more to it. We have soft water (don’t confuse with a water softener) and is that why we don’t see any steam only for the first ten minutes? Does it mean it doesn’t work when there’s no steam?
