x+(x+1)+(x+2)=87

This gives x=28

Divide by 3, take 1 from the first third and add it to the last.
87/3=29
29+29+29=
(-1+29)+29+(29+1)=
28+29+30=87
X=28
Why do you make math harder than it needs to be? There's a hundred ways to solve these problems, and more often than not, my school confused me more than it had any right to do so...

Just divide 87 by 3 to get the average (29) so the three values must be 28, 29 and 30. You can solve this in 5 seconds that way and move on.

Of course if you want to solve x + x + 1 + x + 2 =87, 3x = 87 - 3, 3x = 84, x= 28 then you can, but why waste the time?

bro shouldn’t need a part 2

set it up with x+(x+1)+(x+2)=87
3x+3=87 therefore x=30
smallest number is 30
also let me know if I’m wrong ig
